I swapped out a athlon cpu now pc wont boot

Specs: Windows XP, amd socket socket 462
I was going to trade in a computer so I swapped out the athlon xp 2.0 for a duron. PC wouldn't boot so I switched back in the original athlon but it still wont boot. motherboard lights up gets green power light and solid red hard disk light but monitor gets nothing, doesn't turn green for a second and now I have everything back to where it was.

Did you have the power cord unplugged when you were messing around?

The heatsink MUST be installed properly or the CPU could possibly overheat & fry. Make sure it's not backwards:


Also, you need to use the proper amount of thermal paste between the CPU & heatsink. Just a tiny dab spread thinly & evenly on the CPU core is all it takes. Using no paste, too much paste, or re-using old paste *may* cause the system not to boot.
