Hi.

I have ASUS A7V8X-X and I upped FSB to 400mhz, and left memory on AUTO, I set multiplier to 10x and now my 2500+ barton is running at 2.0 ghz with 48 degrees c cpu and no problems!

Is this normal? It seems too easy! I know I have only upped it by 100mhz or so, but the bus speed is 400mhaz now, instead of 333 and the two combined must have a big effect surely?

As the cpu is neraly the same speed it's quite possible that it works. But you seem to have very good ram because I think on auto it now should run at 400MHz (not totally sure about that!).
Especially the higher bus and ram speed brings the most at overclocking as the datatransfer is 66MHz faster than before!

For example I was very surprised that my update from Pentium2 350@392MHz to Celeron 733@1232MHz brought no more than around 50% with 3D Mark benchmarks!
The cpu is much faster but as I run the same FSB with both cpus the datatransfer has still the same speed!
With the original 66MHz FSB I had nearly the same score as with the Pentium2!

Many people are getting the 2500+ to 11x200 right out of the box with the asus a7n8x and the abit nf7-s. Don't be surprised how well the little Barton will OC.

Well, the only glitch was the network car on the 40 mhz pci bus, didn't want to work. But hey. No matter.

I put it bac, down to original speed. Not got good enough cooling solution.
