I keep getting STOP messages !!!

Specs: Windows XP, 1.80GHz Intel Pentium E2160 Dual Core
I was given a Dell Vostro 200 with a Foxconn G33M02 Motherboard installed with an Intel Pentium E2160 Dual Core Processor also installed . The whole system Is connected with SATA cabling and when I try To Boot up It tries to open the Windows XP Operating System !!! Here's the problem ... When I was first Given the computer , it supposedly was getting power , but no video would appear . I was told that the power chord was unplugged and then plugged in rapidly without the computer being properly shut down or surge protected first . I replaced the little 3v battery for the BIOS and then got video ,but the computer would keep rebooting itself over and over and over again !!! Now the previous owner SUPPOSEDLY had it looked at by a computer tech and had it diagnosed to a bad motherboard which is why I was given it in the first place .... It didn't work !!!! Now I ordered a new motherboard from newegg.com which I thought was another FOXCONN G33 but it was not . It was actually a supermicro C2SBA+ motherboard !!! so it did not needless to say fit in the dell vostro 200 tower case !!!! Well .... I got another tower case to match up with the motherboard and installed everything very neatly precisely and correctly !!! I even went as far as cleaning the heatsink and metal processor cap considerably and reinstalling the thermal grease !!!! Now ,When I try and boot up from the HDD , It gets too the screen where the Windows XP logo comes up and the blue bar starts going across and then continuously keeps rebooting itself !!! Now , I have tried to reboot off the cd-rom drive using the Windows XP install disk that I have and it gets up to the screen where it states starting windows and then I get A STOP message !!!! It states windows was stopped to prevent any further damage to your computer and tells me my HDD may be corrupt or I may have a virus !!! Now , I have tried a different HDD with the same result !!!! I can't even enter SAFE MODE !!! It also states to run CHCKDISK/F to see if my HDD is corrupt but how can I even do that without getting into DOS ??? I'm getting both frustrated and confused !!!! PLEASE HELP !!!!!!!

With a new motherboard you WILL have to reload Windows, BUT XP does not natively support SATA drives!! You can load SATA drivers during the install process through a floppy drive, or you can slipstream them into a custom install disk, BUT THERE MAY BE AN EASIER WAY! In your BIOS set up, look for options on your SATA set up to make the motherboard treat your SATA drives as PATA (IDE) drives (sometimes 'Legacy support'). This will fool the windows installer and you should no longer have this problem installing with your XP CD. The very next step will be to load your new motherboard's drivers for XP onto your system including the SATA drivers as well as drivers for any other hardware like video cards, etc. Then if you want to get the most out of your SATA drives, just reset the BIOS back to standard SATA.
I hope this helps you, post back your results.

You have to be a little bit crazy to keep you from going insane.

"I even went as far as cleaning the heatsink and metal processor cap considerably and reinstalling the thermal grease !!!!"

You make it sound like you went above & beyond what was required of you. Whenever you swap a CPU, the heatsink & CPU must be thoroughly cleaned & new paste applied. In the case of your dual core Pentium, you should have a applied a thin horizontal line of paste across the center of the CPU, no spreading of the paste is necessary.

But as Fingers stated, you can't swap a HDD with XP already preinstalled. The installation is tied to the original hardware & will not work with the new board. Plus being that it's an SATA HDD, reinstalling XP will be a bit tricky. I doubt the Dell disc will work so hopefully you have a retail XP disc to work with.
