Hyper-Threading w/ P4

Comment:
I just got a new Dell with a P4 running at 3.4 GHz with Hyper-Threading Technology. I noticed that with HT enabled, when I am running a CPU-intensive application the max CPU use percentage I can get (as measured with Windows Task Manager) is 50%. I know HT works by dividing the CPU into two virtual CPU's, so is it better that I turn it off to get max performance or am I already getting the max performance and it just shows up as 50%? Thanks.
