Subject: Hyper-Threading Problem!OS: Windows XPCPU/Ram: P4 3.2 w/ht 1.0gb ram |
Comment: Hi. I don't know if anyone has ever come across this problem. I have an Abit motherboard with a P4 3.2ghz cpu with ht technology. My problem is, during boot, I can clearly see that HT is enabled, but when I enter into the windows XP environment and open up my task manager, it only shows me having once cpu graph. I'm just wondering why it's doing that. If it says that it's enabled during boot, then shouldn't be enabled when I enter windows? Hope someone can help me. Don't really mind not having HT enabled right now, but if I could find the answer to this, that would be great. After all, I paid to get HT so might as well figure out how to make it work.. thanks for your help.

Reply: (edit)I'm probably wrong but I think that maybe your getting a little bit confused with what HT is? You should only have 1 cpu graph because you only have 1 cpu. I think HT is dependant on the program? Tt Lanfire MSI K8N Diamond AMD64 3000+'Venice' 1gb pc4400 OCZ Powerstream 520w 6600GT WDCaviar 160gb sata x2;~}

Reply: (edit)Yes, you should see two graphs with HT, but I'll defer on the solution to someone more knowledgeable though.

Reply: (edit)If the OS didn't detect HT before it was installed, it won't install the stuff it needs. You can either re-install windows, or google for info about fixing it. For example, you might find the solution at click here (I just found that from googling...didn't read through it though)

Reply: (edit)Just wanted to make of something, by two graphs do u mean that it will have a CPU usage graph at the top split into two, and a page file usage graph underneath. Because i have the same processor, and didnt enable HT, but then i went into the bios and enabled it, when i restated windows, windows automatically found and installed the components. Let me know if that is the graphs that are meant to be shown please. Thanx guys. B
