Hey, i have a socket a, amd athlon xp 1600 running at 1050mghz, roughly 45-46 degrees. I know to overclock it, i simply go into cmos and raise the multiplier, seting the mghz to a higher number. I have heard you have to change the voltage or something..if so explain that, and is there anthing else i must do? the fan i will be installing is the Swiftech MCX370. Its good. I would like many people to respond, so i know for shure what to do. Thank you, Eddie

Right now your CPU I underclocked. The XP 1600 should clock at 1400MHz. I think your multiplier is locked at 10.5. If you’re clocking at 1050MHz, your FSB must be at 100MHz. If you increase your FSB to 133MHz, you will clock at 1400MHz.
You can overclock this two basic ways. You can increase your FSB beyond 133MHz (easiest). Or, you can unlock your multiplier (requires that you close the L1 bridges on your CPU physically). You may need to increase voltage to remain stable as overclock your CPU.
For more information, search “overclocking Athlon XP” in Google.

I actually did that and got this page

i actually found it the same way, looking for info on my XP1800, right now it's running @1678mhz, 1.92vCore, 33c with a coolermaster... awaiting new hsf, unlocking kit, case fans.

I have an Athlox XP 1700+ actually clocked at 1595 Mhz, the multiplier is locked, I overclocked it by taking the FSB up to 145 Mhz. No overvolting on the cpu was necessary, running stable with standard Vcore values. Now awaiting some Corsair DDR RAM to push the FSB to 150 Mhz.
Temperatures now around 40-43 °C, I have a thermalright SLK600 copper heatsink with a 21 CFM 60 mm fan
