OS: WinXP
CPU/Ram: 566 Celeron/128 Mb SDRAM
Comment:

Hi,

I have a PC thats configured like this:
566 Celeron
128 MB SDRAM
Mercury KOB-810e TFSX MoBo 810e Intel Chipset based.
AMI Bios
WinXP Pro

Is there any way I can overclock the CPU with this setup, considering the Motherboard and BIOS I have (perhaps using a software or something like that).

I've tried but havent been able to find any utility that supports this motherbaord.

Any suggestion from you?

I would not like to upgarde the bios since i'm not too familair with such high end stuff.

If you want better performance outta that old system, overclocking isn't gonna do much. Upgrade your RAM to 512MB

Athlon XP 1800+
8.5 x 200MHz
1024MB PC3200 2.5-3-3-7
Asus A9550GE/TD 128MB
WinME/WinXP Pro SP2

dear god man, you run XP with 128 mb of RAM? yea, overclocking won't cut it. the intel 810 chipset is not great at all. must take forever to boot.

I run Xp Pro on it and it runs very fast.

I've disabled all visual effects and tweaked it in every possible way.

It takes 45 seconds to start up (from the time I press the power button,to the point where all the desktop items appear and everything stabilizes). I'm conected to the internet, run WinWord, OE, IE, Antivirus, Wimamp all together.

Some overclocking will help speed things up.

Can you still suggest some method pls.

Its possible to run even lower, I used an old rig I used to have with 64 MB of RAM and 500MHz? or less of CPU and XP takes about 3 minutes to load but it works.

"But still no suggestions on how to overclock this thing."

You're getting no suggestions cuz there's not much point to it. You've already got 3 strikes against you...

1. you have a 66MHz FSB Celeron

2. you have board with a 810 chipset

3. you only have 128MB RAM

I'll repeat what I wrote above - If you want better performance outta that system, upgrade your RAM...the difference will be significant. If you insist on overclocking, read your manual. I'm sure there other FSB settings available other than 66MHz. Your Celeron *may* need a voltage increase to run stably at a higher FSB so hopefully your board supports vcore adjustments. Your RAM would have to be able to handle the increased speed as well. If your BIOS options are limited, you can try overclocking software like CPUFSB, SoftFSB, ClockGEN, etc

Btw, celerons can only be clocked by FSB method . Intel locked their core overclock ability because they are a monopoly.

Did it !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
We had to move a jumper on the MoBo.
It was 566 Mhz, now its 852 Mhz.
The jumper selects the FSB.
Thanks to all of you.

Nice Celeron 566Mhz, they are the best overclocking Celeron in P3 class... 90% can reach 850Mhz (100x8.5 w/o voltage increase) and 112x8.5 = 952Mhz with +0.1v-0.2v... and I seen people go all the way upto 140x8.5 = 1190Mhz +0.3-0.4v with watercooling... Just make sure ur CPU does not go over 65C under heavy load and you will be fine...
