You can't overclock a Dell unless you use some 3rd party software program. But your performance problem has nothing to do with CPU speed...it's lack of memory. 128MB is pathetic. The minimum you should have is 512MB.

Agreed. Windows XP itself will run fine on 128mb of memory but once you start browsing the internet, checking emails, listening to music and chatting to friends then you quickly run out of ram. For everyday tasks you really want something closer to 512mb as Jam has said... although with ram prices so cheap now you might as well get a gigabyte if your motherboard supports it. If it does you may need two 512mb sticks or four 256mb sticks.

Some of those older machines only have 3 memory DIMMS so you will be limited further in that case. I'm not sure what memory that machine uses but it is probably SDRAM being a 1.3ghz cpu so maybe you could pick up some cheap stuff on ebay? don't pay rediculous retail for SDRAM nowdays... its just horrible pricing at $500 pet 1gb stick when its far far cheaper on ebay.

If there is anything else we can help you with then please just ask :) Good luck!

Hi :)

The PC uses RAMBUS Memory, very expensive as need to be installed in matched pairs, you have 4 slots total, and 2 x 64mb installed. 2 x 256 $99:

It is time to pension of the PC or put PuppyLinux on it !!

1. Most old user motherboards don't accept 1Gb sticks. Server motherboards do. If you want 1Gb sticks, you'll likely find choices are lilmited to Registered ECC memory. When you do find non ECC memory, it ain't expensive.

2. 2 new sticks of 512Mb will cost you less than 100 bucks about any where you find it; not $500.

Yes, I know...just couldn't let the $500/1Gb SDRAM comment pass by. This is not 2001.

I gave away 2 Samsung/IBM 128Mb sticks of RAMBUS last month. I recall each stick was marked $59.00.

I'm not recomending you buy this but just to show you an example, here's some used 256MB sticks for about $20 each:

My prices are quoted from some crazy online retailers i have seen whom haven't changed their prices on 1gb sticks since they were first released obviously and still have stock which they expect to sell for that amount.

Insane prices:

I understand that 1gb modules are usually server or workstation boards too :) Avoid rdram like the plague if you ask me :P

RDRAM was a good idea at first, but the problem was it cost too much for the avg pc user. If RDRAM was as cheap as DDR Ram was we would all be using RDRAM today instead, but that didn't turn out to be the case.

If it's broke, then blow that sucka up!
