Reply: (edit)You can use software to overclock but since you cant lock the pci/agp bus there is little to gain as your speed will not increase enough to notice

Reply: (edit)Your fsb is not locked, the problem is your bios is idiot proofed to not allow harmful changes and people who do not understand computers in general will by a compaq/dell/hp ect...And in 2 years your computer will be so outdated and un upgradable you go and by another compaq/dell/hp and they stay in business.

Just because you can't overclock a namebrand pc doesn't mean you can't upgrade it. You can still upgrade the processor, ram, psu and graphics card with all modern day pc's just like you can any other custom built pc, because all modern day namebrand pc's use the same motherboards as custom built pc's. The only diff is the bios is modded so you can't overclock them. Anything else is still the same.

Reply: (edit)Cobra_R I agree with much of your response #4 but as a practicality wemby is correct. The MBoards are usually a propietory version of a current board but upgrading the board will cause the OS to no longer function. Adding too much hardware may overtax skimpy PSUs. In the end it is usually more cost effective to simply buy another Dell/ Gateway/ Emachine. The dealbreaker is the OS. Expecially now, with Vista costing what it does.
