LOL >>> It aint gonna happen! The KT133 chipset only supports 100MHz FSB. If you can overclock to 840MHz (7.5 x 112MHz), you've done good.

Depending on the actual model/revision the max multiplier is I believe 10x

If this mobo came out of an OEM PC you will most likely have no settings for voltage etc in BIOS........

A 1.05ghz jump???? Not happening. Especially with the earlier AMD Athlons and durons. Maybe a hundred Mhz max. IE around 850.

Regardless of what type or model of CPU involved: a 240% overclock is (by any stretch) an unreasonable expectation.

As indicated by jam -- you'd be lucky to squeeze a fraction of that figure out of your Duron. On a side note, I'd suggest you read up a bit more about overclocking in general before you dabble into the actual exercise.

Yes, the 1GHz Athlon will work on that board.

The Movie PC:
Pentium III-S CPU: 1.66GHz, 158MHz FSB, 512K
2GB DDR333
7950GT AGP
Vista/XP
X-Fi

Probably, but I suggest you go to the MSI website & check the CPU support list for your motherboard just to be sure.

I wouldn't recommend investing too much money in that old system...hopefully you already have the 1.0GHz CPU?

That board is no good either. The KT133E chipset only accepts 100MHz (200FSB) CPUs. The Duron 1.8GHz is a 133MHz (266FSB) CPU. Do you already own the 1.8GHz Duron? It's not a very good CPU due to it's small 64k L2 cache.

I'm guessing that you're looking for a board that uses old PC100/PC133 SDR-SDRAM? Is that absolutely necessary? If so, eBay is the place to look. The best socket A boards were based on the nForce2 chipset, but they use DDR-SDRAM. If you have DDR (or are willing to get some) & you wanna build something cheap, look for a S754 board based on the nForce3 chipset & either a cheap Sempron or Athlon64.

But if you insist on a socket A board & PC100/PC133 RAM, look for one based on the VIA KT133A chipset.

Wrong again. Boards based on SiS chipsets suck & that board is horrible. Besides, it uses DDR RAM.

The two eBay links I posted above are to excellent boards & they both use PC100/PC133. And as I said, if you want a board that uses DDR RAM, definitely look for one based on the nForce2 chipset.

I would not suggest the Nforce2 to anyone. I have one and it is a piece of junk. Random freezes all the time in any OS, all the suggested fixes dont work and if anyone reads up on the nforce2, then you'll find loads of complaints and reliability issues. I'm sure nvidia has improved, but their first chipsets are total junk.

I would suggest a AMD chipset, or VIA chipset board. Of course the AMD chipset before the VIA. AMD760 maybe???

Core 2 Duo 1.86

I totally disagree with the statement that the nForce2 chipset was & is a piece of junk. Furthermore, how does your one bad experience make the whole lineup garbage - huh? I guess my negative reaction to pickles ought to make everyone stay away from the vegetable -- but wait a minute: I enjoy cucumbers .... LOL

I had the NF7-S from ABIT back in the AXP glory days & know for a fact that the nForce2/Ultra chipset was a SOLID performer for its time & there was nothing back then that came close to delivering identical results.

If you want proof -- reviews of the chipset's performance are littered all over the internet.

I used to have an AK73 Pro(A), which I *think* is the same board. It worked very well...decent overclocker & no problems with it whatsoever.

The CPU settings are configured with a combination of DIP switches & the BIOS, so you'll have to set them accordingly. If you don't have the manual, download it from AOPEN:

The Nforce2 chipset was a great chipset. If your Nofrce2 was messing up, then blame the motherboard company and not the Nforce product. I had 2 Nforce motherboards and they both worked flawlessly.

I think I would blame the system builder rather than the board manufacturer or the nForce2 chipset ;-)

Tell that to my A7N8X thats still kicking along after gawd knows how many years of heavy use, multiple case changes, upgrades and oc'ing. Sorry, but IMO, the nforce2 based boards would have to be some of the greatest I've ever used.

Completely useless? I can always be used as a bad example.

There are 10 types of people in the world. Those that understand binary, and those that don't.
