Comment:

i need help to overclock my 1.7Ghz processor to atleast 2.4Ghz processor, i tried to change the jumper setting in motherboard from 100Mhz to 133Mhz but system failed to boot and i tried to increase CPU multiplier ratio from 17x to 24x and there was no effect, one more thing i observed is that in the EVEREST Ultimate Edition i use is that under computer -> dmi -> processors -> Intel(R) Pentium(R) 4 Processor section in max clock field it indicates 3000Mhz does it mean i can increase the speed upto 3Ghz plz reply

here are details of my pc

You need to overclock in small steps, have you read the Motherboard manual for details of what FSB, Multiplier, Voltage Options it does have ??

You can go from 400 to 533 fsb and whack up the multi, it ain't going to work, obviously you need to research overclocking:

The multiplier is locked & there is no way to unlock it...changing the setting will have no effect. In other words, you're stuck with 17x.

Looking at all the info you posted makes me wonder what you're trying to accomplish? Your entire system is weak...weak CPU, crappy board based on a weak chipset, weak video card, & not enough RAM.

There are several settings that have to be adjusted when overclocking...it's not as simple as just raising the FSB. The memory speed needs to be considered, the PCI/AGP bus speed, CPU voltage will most likely need to be increased, spread spectrum should be disabled, etc. If you can't lock the PCI/AGP at 33/66MHz, the highest you can safely go with the FSB is 112MHz & the RAM should run at the same speed. There's not much point running the RAM at 133MHz if the CPU is only running at 100MHz (or 112MHz overclocked). At 133MHz, the PCI/AGP will run at their default speeds (33/66MHz) & the RAM would be running at it's default speed of 133MHz as well, but if you can't add more voltage to the CPU, you'll never be able to do it.

my pc is around 5yrs old and at that time i was short of cash to buy a high end pc and cost of good pc is too much near my place comparatively, well.... enough of that,

how can i increase voltage to my cpu?
there is no option in bios to change voltages.
is their any other way?

and can someone give me suggestion for good pc configuration, so that i can help my friend buy a nice pc? he wants a pc especially for gaming

onemorething i forgot to say is that if i change the speed of FSB from 400Mhz to 533Mhz(that is changing the jumper setting on my motherboard from 100Mhz to 133Mhz) then my pc fails to boot

How can you overclock a 180nm Celeron 1.7ghz to 2.4ghz without high-end cooling? The fastest Willamette core was P4 2.0Ghz and that was the top model Intel offered. So unless you have prometia or vapo-chill cooling system, 2.4ghz is not going to happen...

I have a laptop with a Celeron Prosessor in it and they can be very finiky pros.
I wouldn't change anything with this prosessor, it might go into a unstable state, then your in trouble.
