Reply: (edit)How the hell are you running win2k on a 75mhz system. If it is it must take like a half-hour to boot. do you mean winMe?

Reply: (edit)hey tommy! i saw that you question is a couple of weeks old, but maybe i can help anyway. i too am stuck with older equipment. i have an old 430hx board in my machine. you didnt give too much info about your board except that it will run a 66 mhz fsb, which is a good thing. first off set your fsb to 66 which will give you 100mhz with your current multiplyer setting of 1.5. secondly, if it is a socket 7 instead of a socket 5 then you're in luck. you can buy a 200mmx off of pricewatch all day long for under $20. actually any mmx proc from 166 to 233 will work. mmx proc differ from regular pentiums in that they read a 1.5 multiplyer as a 3.5 multiplyer. so if you drop in an mmx proc your machine will run at 233(3.5x66). this is the setup that i am currently running in my machine. i have a 166mmx proc set at 1.5x66mhz, which gives me 233mhz. then stuff in as much RAM as you can fit in it. sandra will tell you the max module size for your board. however it was wrong about mine. it listed my max module as 32, when in fact it will accept up to 64meg sticks. lastly older boards like ours wont recognize a hard drive over 8.4 gigs. you have a couple of options to work around this. the first is to buy an add in EIDE controller card, which will allow you to run any hard drive that you want. the second and cheaper way around this problem is to buy a maxtor hard drive. they come with a program called MAXBLAST, which instructs the computer to look for the rest of the hard drive past the 8.4 gig barrier after the machine has booted. i havent personally used it but have heard that it works great. hope this all helps. if you need any more help feel free to email me at hensley_joe01@hotmail.com
