Thought it would be something like that. That thing is very difficult to take apart and even if you could somehow change the fsb each try would require you to disassemble and reassemble the laptop.

You'd better check and see if your dad wants you to mess with a 500-600 buck laptop. It will almost certainly end up as junk.

My experience doesn't extend to your latitude. I can tell you that my Inspiron 7000 366PII motherboard has no jumpers, no dip switches and no bios adjustments.

If there are no adjustments on your motherboard, there is no overclock capability I'm aware of.

I'm glad you got through the fan replacement. That seems to be a common latitude problem with the non thermally controlled fans.

The first thing I'd do to speed the machine up is make sure XP is running as well as possible. The additional memory should have helped some. You know, keep all the spyware cleaned up etc.

I tried XP on my 366 w/ 256Mb about 18 months ago and that was a non working combination. Me went back on the old 6.4Gig hdd and it worked just fine. I keep that thing on 24/7 when I'm not on the road and it easily does anything I need it to including playing dvd's thru the tv and stereo.

Barring some unforseen disaster, I expect to use that machine for years to come.

A few of us are currently buying old P100 machines for daily use in the trucks with 98se and Office97. They're plenty fast enough for spreadsheets, word processing, reading acrobat files and so forth. Much less of a loss on the day they'll be stolen.

Just wondering...
Im just about to purchase a 2nd hand dell latitute cpx from a 2nd hand warehouse. Its in great condition and even includes a perfect condition carry case etc. Only problem is they said the battery on ALL their lot of dell cpx's are dead. So I'll need a new battery.

Anyway to my question:
What ram is maximum for this system? its the 500mhz PIII model and comes with 128mbs ram. Im getting for $550 AU so was pretty happy with that. its ~ $450 US i guess?

Cheers for any help
Rob
