I have a Athlon XP 1900+ system with 256DDR Ram and a Jetway 128Mb Geforce 4 Ti4400 card, running on Windows XP Pro, however I'm still experiencing severe slowdowns in games even with medium settings (such as Mafia or Medal of Honor), would adding memory solve the problem??
I have all the latest drivers. Thanks!

more than likely it is video settings. make sure you are at 4x in the bios, agp apeture 256, fast write, etc...

I am going to say memory, I have about the same setup, except for 128 Meg of ram and a ti 4200, and I was geting about 30 fps in Unreal Tournament. I went up to 384 Meg and it went up to about 80 fps with the same settings. I then went up to 640 Meg and it helped alot in Battlefield 1942. I bought the last 256 Meg DDR stick yesterday at Office Depot for $50 and I have a $25 mail in rebate. So $25 for 256 Meg. That is cheap in my book.;)

I would go for more memory also... 256 isn't really for gaming... I would say 512 is the best. probably 384 is enough even you are using XP.

that is PLENTY of memory no need to add more. Go to tweakxp.com and implement some of the tweaks for your OS. One of the main ones is setting the OS to best performance and getting rid of the eye candy. That setting alone may make all the difference in the world (go to system properties/advanced and make the change)

Make yourself another profile and name it your game profile and kill everything thats running in the background and all the pretty colors that xp loads. Its pretty but its a memory hog. If that dont work...i dont know....you just might have to add another 256 of memory.

Thanks everyone!! Setting Windows to best performance has made some difference, but adding another 256 is what really got rid of the slowdowns.
Cheers!
