Reply: (edit)You should try going to the gateway newsgroup and ask Edward Neth. He seems to know alot or can provide links to info that you seek. alt.sys.pc-clone.gateway2000 You can also consider a Powerleap adapter though that might be more money than you want to spend. http://www.powerleap.com/guides/GatewayGuide.htm https://www.quickbase.com/db/6v74ue7a?act=QuickSearch&srchtxt=Gateway+G

Reply: (edit)Yeah, got more or less the same system / problem. Don't want to upgrade to ONLY a 450. So I ordered the powerleap adapter. Should be here in a few days. Check out the web site. www.powerleap.com Going from 300mhz to a 1.2ghz. Will see how it goes???

Reply: (edit)Thanks for replying guys!! I'd guess you have figured out I'm doing this on a budget or I wouldnt be trying to upgrade a 233 in the first place LOL! I'm just wanting to get a bit more out of my gaming so I figured I could pick up a cheap cpu to help out. The thing I cant figure out is which type I can use. I see alot about the amd cpu's but I now have a intel. I just want to get it right the first time around. Thanks.

Reply: (edit)You can get mother boards and cpu's for so cheap now, I would highly recomend just getting them you can probably get a motherboard and an amd xp1600 processor ofr between 150 and 200 dollars the xp1600 runs at 1400 MHz's that is really good speed for that cheap. I think this would be the best way for you to go. It's cheap and it will save you alot of headache, and also it will be brand new. good luck please let me know if this helped.

Reply: (edit)power leap adapter is waste of mony and time just get a new mother board and cpu. you can even get one slower than the xp1600 that I mentioned earlier for even cheaper, such as a 1 gig or somthing they're now probably only around 40 dollars.
