How far can I overclock my AMD xp 1600?? I overclocked it to an 1900 (fsb=150 clock multiplier=10.5) allready and the CPU temperature is 46 C. The cooler that I have is for an xp1800 maximum... Experience anyone?
thanks.

You can overclock as far as you are comfortable with. I have a Athlon which set to the default 1.2GHz has a temp of 36C. The fastest XP will boot is when it is running at 1.47GHz and then my CPU temp is between 39-40C. So in my case I am limited by the OS more than CPU temperature. I personally would not exceed normal operating temperature by 10C unless it was for a short time, like for benchmarking. That is me. I personally found increasing the entire bus is much more effective for performance than just the CPU multiplier.

I have a XP1700 & a Soyo Dragon Plus. I also have 3 case fans and a processor fan. I used the MB bios to overclock my chip. I set the multiplier to 11, the cpu usage to turbo, and the FSB to 280! When I boot my computer it now says XP1800. I have been running my computer like this for 2 weeks then I tested my new settings with SANDRA 2002. It confirmed I am now running at 1540. The highest temperature I've reached is 44 deg. c. I ran SANDRA fireburner test to check for instability and went off with out a hitch. I benched my new setup against a XP1800 and inched buy in in only one test. Since I only benched last night I hope to have more detailed results to pass along in the future.

I have an xp 1700 on the soyo dragon plus and have pushed it all the way to 160 fsb and a muliplier of 11.0. I have run it for one week and it made it through sisofts burn for 24 hours. I am running pc2700 ram so that helps with some stability issues. Will push it further after I have finished overclocking the video card... More information on this machine can be found at [http://web.wt.net/~wttb/myprofile/athlonxp2000+.htm]
