Subject: how far can i o/c my cpuOS: XP ProCPU/Ram: 3200+/1-2gb |
Comment: i am in the process of biulding a new system for myself. the motherboard i got (an ASUS A8N) is supposed to be very good for overclocking. without messing with water/liquid cooling, which i don't want to do,how far can i potentially overclock my AMD 64 3200+ Venice? I will have a case with at least 2 fans, probably 3, and a high-quality fine-finned, copper brazed heat sink with a large fast fan. i will get some cooling paste. how far can I o/c this CPU? what is the actual clock speed now? thanx. Argue for your limitations and sure enough, they're yours.

Reply: (edit)Get a DFI INSTEAD!! Clock speed is 2.0Ghz, oc highest possible would be 2.6, all chips are different so impossible to tell. ASPIRE ATXB4KLW-AL Antec 400W ASUS A8N-SLI Deluxe AMD 3700+ San Diego Corsair 1GB 2x512 eVGA 6600GT 250GB Hard Drive Sound Blaster Audigy Windows XP HOME W/SP2

Reply: (edit)Not that it seems to matter to a lot of people, but as soon as you use an aftermarket HSF w/paste rather than the stock one w/thermal pad, you void the AMD warranty ASUS A7N8X-X Athlon XP 1800+ 8.5 x 200MHz 1024MB PC3200 2.5-3-3-7 Asus A9550GE/TD 128MB WinME/WinXP Pro SP1

Reply: (edit)does the stock AMD HSF with thermal pad provide enough cooling for overclocking? Argue for your limitations and sure enough, they're yours.

Reply: (edit)If you got it, use it. If you're not happy with the results, THEN get an aftermarket one ASUS A7N8X-X Athlon XP 1800+ 8.5 x 200MHz 1024MB PC3200 2.5-3-3-7 Asus A9550GE/TD 128MB WinME/WinXP Pro SP1

Reply: (edit)DFI is a motherboard manufacturer. Use DFI or Abit if you really want to overclock Your CPU original clock is 2.0, 2.6 is good if you can overclock it. use CBId(Central Brain Identifier) to know your overclocked CPU rating. (Venice 2.6? ummm.. 3800+ - 4000+ perhaps?dunno) Find it in majorgeeks.com, CPU section. Hey,stock cooling is not that bad. LOL! Athlon 64 2800+ @ 2.63 Ghz Air Cooled DFI Lanparty UT NF3 250Gb Abit R9550 VGuru XTurbo mod to 9600XT @525Mhz core, 300Mhz Memory

Reply: (edit)As long as vcore stays below 1.6 Volt the Venice runs okay with Stock HSF upto 2.7 Ghz. (if you could get a good overclocker chip) http://www.madshrimps.be/?action=getarticle&articID=322
