The problem is that the gateway system is an OEM system so it was just build for that cpu. The question is how fast a P3 the bios is able to detect or if there is a newer one that adds additional cpus to it.
The fastest slot1 cpu I found was a 800MHz P3 but with my Asus P2B Board I was able to upgrate up to 1,1GHz coppermine core socket 370 P3 and Celeron by using a slot one to FCPGA socket 370 adapter card. I that case I knew it worked under certain conditions but with a OEM system and board I doubt that will work!
