Hello, I have seen tons of forums about this but I am not helped by any of them. I know enough about computers to change the abount of ram, add hard drives video cards, cooling fans. But lately all of my attemps to speed up my eMachine have failed. I bought 1gb of ram helped some, bought a new video card(Was due anyway 64mb not cutting it) but it did not help that much. So i was looking around some forums and i discovered that Celerons were easy to overclock sopposely. So i was looking around in my bios, not changing anything just trying to look for some common things i saw in other forums, i found none of them. I am a complete noob at this, and i have to over clock. I have no other choice. I cant afford to buy a new computer or even build one. Can someone help me? Heres a link to my computers support page:
If i forgot something you can email me at Aaron_Boger2@hotmail.com

Sorry Forgot. . . Board model is D845GVSR, and is there any programs that i can get? That work with Intels

Well I hate to be the bearer of badnews, but
that computer will not be overclockable using the BIOS settings. Your motherboard is an MSI if I'm not mistaken and it does not allow changing FSB, as well as vcore adjustments and memory timings etc. Those are crucial for overclocking. You can try
to download "Clockgen" and overclock within Windows, but your unlocked PCI and/or AGP buses, will causes instability and crashes.I would recommend a new system to overclock that processor as it is very overclockable.
(It's performance is a separate issue altogether!)Abit NF7- S2

Windows XP Pro

Is your board supported in Clockgen or are the options to choose your PLL greyed out?

It's not an MSI board, it's an Intel board.

And if you don't have the manual for it, you can download it here:

What is it that you're trying to accomplish? If you're trying to overclock for better gaming performance, you're wasting your time...upgrade your video card. The Radeon 9200 is not (& never was) a good gaming card.
Read the instructions on how to use ClockGen:
http://www.cpuid.com/clockgen.php

Yes i know that it was crap, but was only 20$ and i needed something new. And as for ClockGen i dont think it is sopported.

Thanks for replies, but i finally found a buyer for my car out front, so that gives me 700$ to spend. What type of processor is the best to get besides celeron?

@ Jam - "What is it that you're trying to accomplish? If you're trying to overclock for better gaming performance, you're wasting your time...upgrade your video card. The Radeon 9200 is not (& never was) a good gaming card."
Overclocking is fun and free. It can also help you learn about your computer and how it works. It is most definatley not a waste of time. And it will give a boost to gaming performance.
However you are totally right, the 9200 is a pants GFX card for any vaguely recent games. I recommend looking around, there are many bargains to be had.
@ Booger4497 - Your Celeron is not the fastest CPU on the block, but your GFX card is way behind that. If you are looking to spend money, you should get a new GFX card above all else, then maybe a P4 CPU rather than your celeron.
AMD Athlon 2800+ barton @ 12.5 X 176 : 2200mhz
1024Mb DDR400 RAM in sync
MSI KT6 Delta mobo
Leadtek AGP 6600 gt 128Mb
120Gb Seagate HDD

I wasn't trying to discourage him from overclocking, I was just trying to put things into perspective. When it comes to gaming, the CPU takes a backseat to the video card. Overclocking the CPU won't improve gaming if the video card is an old dog like the R9200.

Since you'll have $700.00 to spend...why not get a Socket 754 - 64 bit Sempron and mobo?
These can be bought for less than $200.00 and paired with the NF3-250 GB chipset, overclocking options are limitless. Also, as far as video cards..try a Radeon 9550 - it can be purchased for about $65.00, and you can use ATI Tool to overclock it.

Excellent recommendations for a decent performing "budget build", but if you're willing to spend a little more, look into a S939 A64, nForce4 Ultra motherboard, & PCI-E video card.

Thank you for the responses, I was looking at a amd 64 too. I also have this computer overclocked after 4 hours of intensive work with clock gen. It is now 3.2ghz. So this computer will not be completely useless when the new one comes in the mail.

Overclcoking is only as about as good as the board itself. If you can only bump it 100 mhz faster then it's pretty pointless because you will see no increase hardly at all with preformance especially with a celeron chip where you have to overclock it at least 400mhz faster then it's defualt speed just to see a preforamnce diff from its defualt speed.
