Hi guys! Ive got this piece of s**t(Athlon 2000+xp) running at 170/12.5 with the vcore incresed to 1.70.I upgraded my ram to pc3200 but cant get it to go any faster.I had it at 161/12.5 with pc2100(even had it as high as 166/12.5).The temp isnt a problem cos it only hits 51'C after a couple of hours on toast. It seems I have wasted my cash on faster ram and extra cooling for an improvement of 100mhz.I did have it at 175/12.5=2.2ghz but after 10mins of toast it rebooted.Any help to get me cookin this baby would be GREAT! Thanks!

Remember my last couple of replies in your other post?

"get yourself some PC3200, set the FSB at 200mhz, & the CPU should easily run at 2500mhz...lol" Like I said, I was being sarcastic...I didn't expect you'd be able to pull it off.

"I did have it at 175/12.5=2.2ghz but after 10mins of toast it rebooted"

Raise your vcore! How are you getting it to 1.7v? You said you could only raise it 5%...if default is 1.65v, that should have put it at 1.7325v?

BTW, your 2000+ isn't a "piece of s**t"...you're just expecting too much from it. You may be able to get more out of it, but a higher vcore is the only way to stabilize it...how high are you willing to go? 1.85v is my personal limit...but I've seen where people claim to have them at 1.9v or 2.0v. Expect much higher temps at these settings though

BTW, now you at least have the RAM you'll need for when you get a "real" CPU...lol

I overclocked a AMD 2400 Xp chip to 2.17 mhz
this is the equivalent of an xp 2700 chip.
The mobo and chipset fried aftera month but ran stable during this time period.
The failure was credited to the fact that I should have set the chipset to shut down after 53 degrees (not sure if exactly 53..still need to experiment with critical temps)and the fan failed due to the fact it was overworked. With proper cooling The 2400 and 2500 will over clock very nicely..heat is the problem with the thoroughbred b core even though it was ahead of the A core.
Remember to keep in mind the board rating on an amd of 333 mhz is due to double architectual processing of the amd chipset.
In reality it's capable of 166mhz fsb.
Amd processes twice the info on the FSB and therefore it's 333 fSB rated.
Intel has quad architecture which is why it's 200 mhz fsb board setting is called 800 FSB capable.
Also not all chips are the same
check out this link that explains in detail how some chips have been intended to run at 3000 and have been degraded and made into 2500's etc as the default voltage setting wouldn't run them stable..not to say that a voltage tweak wouldn't run them back at 3000 for the price of a 2400!

im surprised your chip fried at 53'C. Most people with an amd chip and stock hsf idle at that temp(AMD tech docs say an xp chip is stable at 85'C)@lost soldier

Hey, I had a slow day at work...lol

I went to the Asrock site & had a look at your manual...not too much to see. There wasn't anything about vcore adjustment?

Hi giggles...hey indigian,

Yea, when I'm in the office, I can do a fair amount of posting...especially when things are slow (like now). I keep the computing.net site minimized & check it throughout the day. My job is a mix of office/CAD & field work. The weather has been bad so we haven't been collecting much data lately & until we get everything we need, we can't process it, which means there's not too much to do...plus the area we're currently working in is so overgrown that we've been spending entire days with machetes clearing a work area...blisters & callouses...lol! I work for a gov't agency (won't say which one) & my job is to map terrain, create 3D drawings & cut cross sections. Our equipment is very similar to what's being used by the military in Afghanistan in the hunt for Usama, except they use their's for targetting...lol ;)
