Hello i was wondering if i can overclock my cpu.
I have a pentium 4 2.0ghz Northwood. My Motherboard is a Intel D845ept2. Can someone tell me what to use and how to do it.
BTW i have overclocked my Nvidia Geforce 4 420mx from Stock 250core 333memory to 315core 415memory. Any help would be appreciated.

sadly Dell reflash and lock all their Bios overclockign features. Could try software Oc but as everyone on here will tell you its pretty poor. So probably not unless you purchased new motherboard which would be useless since of the old pentium 4.

Pentium4 3.20ghz@ 3.8ghz
1Gb Corsair XMS
2 x 250gb
PNY 7600GSAGP @450/1000
ASUS P4P800 SE
Thermaltake Purepower 680w
Win XP Home

The problem with overclocking software is that it doesn't provide a way to lock the PCI/AGP buses from overclocking along with the FSB. So if you have a 400FSB CPU (which actually runs at 100MHz), the safe max for the FSB would be 112MHz before the PCI/AGP gets too far outta spec. If you have a 533FSB CPU (which actually runs at 133MHz), the safe max is 150MHz.

Do the math:

20 x 100MHz = 2.0GHz (default)
20 x 112MHz = 2.24GHz

15 x 133MHz = 2.0GHz (default)
15 x 150MHz = 2.25GHz

However, another problem is that the CPU voltage *usually* needs to be raised when overclocking. And if the Dell BIOS doesn't have the option to change voltage (I highly doubt it does), chances are good that you won't even be able to raise the FSB as high as I've listed. Also, don't forget that the RAM will overclock along with the CPU too, so that has to be taken into account.

Anyhow, try Clockgen:

What if i upgrade to a 2.8ghz Pentium 4, would that help out the memory, or would it be the same as before except for the higher Ghz?
