Hi,

I just did a little project with an old mobo and CPU combo.. the CPU is a P4 2,4GHz Northwood socket478, which i could OC to 3GHz with no problems accept the temp...

I didn't want to spend a lot of bucks on a expensive cooler for this old system, so i did some experimenting with the stock heatsink and build myself an effective watercooling system, which brought my temps down from 54c @ idle, to 25c @ idle!

The way i did this was by drilling 4 holes through the heatsink and then interting 4 copper pipes in them, then i connected
the copper tubes to eatchother using plastic tubing, eventually i connected one tube to a bucket of icewater, which i placed on a chair, and another to an empty bucket on the floor...
so this would make the water flow from the icewater bucket, through the 4 copper pipes in the heatsink, into the empty bucket on the floor...
I sucked the water trought the tubes and it worked!
Allmost immediately giving me more then a 50% temp drop!

When adding a small aquarium pump to this setup to avoid the bucked from running out of water, this will be a very effective fully working watercooling system...

But.. i still have one small problem however;
Because the heatsink and the tubes are getting so cold, they produce condens on their surfaces, so things are getting a little moisture and therefore putting the motherboard in danger...

So my question is, do you guys know some way i can get rid of this condens?
BTW, here are some pictures of the thing:

How big a role did the Heineken play in the design of this thing? LOL!

"So my question is, do you guys know some way i can get rid of this condens?"

Sure. Go back to air-cooling. Or at least look at how a "normal" water cooling setup is built. The water is supposed to pass thru an air-cooled radiator, not a chest full of ice water.

Well.. the Heineken played a big role on helping me designing the thing :)

As for the condens, i'll have my way with some duct-tape and see what that does...

I would suggest that you not use ice water. Just cool water and that should do away with the condensation. Won't run as cool but should be ok.

You could use a foam covering for the pipes to stop the condensation. Pretty cheap, or a layer of paper towel and then duct tape...

Heh, I've been contemplating making a water cooling system for fun, I've got a new radiator that is meant for a cars air conditioning system brand new and unused... I guess I should get my act together get some piping and start to water cool my old Cyrix machine!

Stop condensation: raise the water temperature above the dew point of the surrounding air.(get rid of the ice)

lagg the pipes like they do in heating systems in houses this is about 1-2cm thick foam which should keep cold in the tubes and obsorb condensation give it ago and its dirt cheap
good luck and brilliant idea

By the way it appears you also need some central air conditioning. You know if you were to just fill your bathtub with some ice water.....
