I have brand new comp: 2.4GHz,533,512DDR on new mb MSI 845PE Max2. Problem is temp. of proc. over 50°C in normal operation. In games is over 60°C and more...What is problem (original Intel fan works fine with 2800rpm, big tower). On finger touch heatsink is prety cold, but in bios temp is over 50°C?! I put some new thermal compound again, but nothing change - temp. is again high? Why?

It could be your room temp or poor circulation inside the case. Is your system temp high like the cpu temp? And is the system stable? P4's will slow down at high temps and then shut down if that doesn't cool them off, protecting themselves from damage.

I think the software is out of whack. Try motherboard monitor or some other temp reading proggy - but if the heatsink isn't hot to the touch, you shouldn't have to worry about it.

if it is brand new, do a 48-72 hour burn-in, tests out components and will allow the thermal compund to fully settle, which will result alone in a 2-4C drop.

OK! My system temp. (closed case) is about 25 - 30°C max. In BIOS temp reading is 50 - 54° C on open case. I try another same motherboard (MSI Max2) and result is the same (about temp). Maybe I must add two more fan into case or what?
