hey my friend said he'll sell my his GeForce FX5900 Ultra for half the price he bought it for because hes getting the 6800.. but i wanna know if putting the 5900 in my AMD 1.0 Ghz will damage or slow down the 5900 in any way, because when i get my report card im looking forward to upgrading to a nice 2.4 Ghz processor.. but i dont know if putting in the 5900 into my 1.0 ghz will make the 5900 slower, i know it will be bottlenecked like CRAZY! so maybe it will be used to not using its full power or something? but i just wanna know if when i put it into the 2.4 Ghz, will it run with optimum performance?

AMD Athlon 1.0 Ghz
PNY GeForce FX 5200 128MB
640MB RAM Kingston

A 2.4GHz CPU? AMD doesn't make such an animal so I assume you're gonna get a P4 & a new motherboard too? And a new PSU? Possibly new RAM?

LOL! Or are you talking about a 2400+? Are you sure your motherboard will support it? If you're gonna spring for a new AMD CPU, go for the 2500+ Barton...IF your board supports it!

Check the video card specs & your motherboard specs before buying the video card...your AGP slot may not support the proper voltage.

What motherboard do you have?

Reasonable quality motherboards aren't exactly expensive these days, especially if you're spending 'x' ammount of $/£ on a processor and graphics card anyway.
My NF7-s cost me about £50-£60-ish, but the standard NF7 can be had for around £25-£30, Asrock nforce2 Ultra motherboards and similar brands are even cheaper.

i dont know how any of that answers my
questions, i was just wondering if putting
the FX5900 Ultra into my AMD 1.0 Ghz would
slow it down in any way.. in simplest
terms.. if i put my FX5900 into my AMD for
like a month then put it into a P4 2.4 Ghz
next will it still run with optimum
performance, will the performance of the
card be lowered by the AMD 1.0 Ghz? please
thats all i want to know not rude sarcastic
comments =\

Dude, I answered your question! You have to know the specs of your motherboard before slapping in a higher end AGP video card. Since you haven't told us what board you have, we can't give you a direct answer.

There are different AGP standards...I don't just mean 2X, 4X, 8X, I mean voltage! At 1st it was 3.3v, then it was 1.5v, & most of the new 8X cards run on 0.8v...some are backwards compatible with 1.5v AGP, some are not.

As I said, you have to look into your motherboard specs & the videocard specs...if you just go ahead, slap it in & fire it up, it's anybody's guess as to what will happen. It may work, it may fry, or it may simply not post...but it's not worth the gamble!

Read this table and check.

Yes yoru card will be bottled necked. I doubt your 1ghz board has agp 8x. The card is an 8x card with 4x compatibility. I wouldn't worry too much, it'll still scream along!

Putting the card into your current machine will make no changes to the card. It does not alter anything. The card will be fine in your new machine after use in an old one, assuming you read the table I posted and make sure it is safe in your motherboard.

Xeno ...

Jam is right. For that matter, some older motherboards may not even let you install the card. I ran into kind of a reverse situation with a PC that I upgraded for my daughter: installed a newer m/b and CPU (AMD 2000+), and wanted to use an older ATI card, but the AGP slot was set up so that the old card wouldn't fit ... ended up using the onboard video for now. Maybe your friend would let you check to see if the card will fit the slot first; it probably will, but I'd make sure.

lol I put my X800 Pro into my old Asus A7V133A w/ an AMD Xp2000+ and a gig of PC133 and scored 7900 on 3Dmark 03...^_^ anyway XEno...one simple answer...YES YOUR card will be bottlenecked for the rest of the system...your system will be SLOWING down the card and you wouldnt be able to get the most out of the card...

Forget the video question for a second... How are you going to replace an old AMD 1.0G by just slapping in a P4 2.4G?
Not being funny, I'd like to know what's up.
