CPU usage runs at about 75-100% whenever computer is on regardless of programs running. System process will use up CPU processing if no other programs running. Most programs run normally, but any typing (word or this message, e.g.) goes very slow. Acer Aspire 1640 with Windows XP. Any help appreciated. Tried virus scans without success.

Scan it with malwarebytes

If malwarebytes checkes out clear then go to start/run type msconfig and go to the startup tab.

In there look at the file names in the startup item list on the left and type each startup item and find out if they need to be running in the background here.
