I'm curious about overclocking...except I don't know much about it at all. My friend who helped me build my computer says I should be able to overclock because I had some pretty good airflow...so I wanna know about overclocking, as how do I do it, and how I know I'm not overpushing my system and all that stuff.

My friend also recommended I add this stuff-

If there is any other info you guys need to know just go ahead and ask and I'll tell. Thanks for the time taken to help me.

There are so many materials out there about overclocking, including stuff regarding that particual C2D & your motherboard. I don't know how long ago or how much you spent on your machine, But if it was within the last couple of weeks, you should have gotten a P35 motherboard as opposed to the now dated P965 (P5B Deluxe) motherboard that you went for & the CPU; you even could have gone with a quad core like the Q6600. The P35 is a better performer all round compared to the P965 & it holds a more viable upgrade path. Eitherway, you should be able easily overclock your machine to 3.5+GHz with the stock cooling from Intel & without the AS5 thermal grease.

i got all my stuff back in april, thanks for the links. If anyone else wants to add any other comments I'm open to them. Most of the things I ordered I got on recommendation from a friend on the budget I had put (it increased about 200 dollars from what I originally wanted heh, but its cool, I love my computer)

i have a similiar setup and i'm at 3.0 ghz on a stock intel cooler and barely above stock cpu voltage.

my E6420 runs stock at 2.13 ghz (with an 870 mhz overclock) not bad at all with a stock cooler.

Asus P5B-D wi-fi / E6420 @ 375x8
2GB OCZ DDR2-1066
320MB Geforce 8800 GTS
2x 320GB Seagate 7200.10's
