Hey guys i'm wondering how I should go about doing this.
I have a ABIT IC7-MAX3 motherboard with a p4 2.6 processor. Im trying to set my fsb @ 250 with a 5:4 ratio to keep a nice even 200mzh speed. These are my current settings:
N/B Strap : PSB800
1.6 CPU Vcore
2.8 DDRv
my ram (kingston corsair dual channel 2x 256)timings are relaxed @ 3-4-4-8
agp/pci is locked at 66/33 and the agp volt is at 2.6
I currently have my FSB set @ 245 and is decently stable. However when I set this to 250 with the same settings as described as above windows fails to boot. Now I increased the cpu vcore to 1.7 just temporarily to see if I just needed better cooling but it still didn't boot. I doubt its the ram but maybe? I have a stock fan and when the fsb is at 245 it idles at around 39.
I know this is a super long question, just trying to throw all the info in there. Any reply would be fab. Thanks!

You've got a decent overclock & decent CPU temp...5mhz isn't gonna make you or break you

i wouldn't settle for anything but rock solid stability....

you did not state what speed your memory is

You have nothing to worry about. Your system will be ROCK solid. Any P4 from 2A on could be overclocked 25% rock solid. ANT P4 northwood. And, you don't need to be lucky. I don't read and report. I use / own and state the facts. I am sick of people HERE read and QUOTED.

I OWNED /TESTED P4's and XP AMD. I don't quote. ANY P4 2.6C with less than 1.6 Volt will run 245 FSB, otherwise it is your memory problem.

Hey, I just bought a huge fan also and Im still having stability problems @ 245-249.
I'm beginning to think its my ram, i've got 2x256 pc3200 kingston corsair dual channel.
The timings are at 3-4-4-8, any ideas?
Sorry if im forgetting critical information, just let me know and ill post it ASAP.

Kingston corsair dual channel? You mean you are using one kingston and one corsair to have dual channel? IC7-MAX3 have a known issue with 5:4 when FSB is above 270, but at 250 you should be ok. I think it's your RAM.
Hey, real_cool, how did you get 540 RAM speed when you running FSB270 at 5:4? Could it because your IC7 5:4 is not working properly?

I got lucky with a pair of Apacer PC3200. I was able to run 1:1 dual channel, HT enabled, PAT at auto, up to 267FSB stable. At 270FSB, I have some problem.

At 275, I could run 5:4, but V-core @1.725 which I don't like.

Shawn, I have two IC7, unless they both are not running properly to give me over 5600 to 6100 mb/s. And, the 3rd system IS7 also screwed up.

Well, I just don't understand why are you getting 540 RAM speed if your FSB is 270 at 5:4 ratio. Memory bandwidth is not relevant here. Acoording to Abit's forum, the Max3 has 5:4 ratio problem, but I don't know if IC7, IC7-G have the same problem. Well, I need to do a little research because I'm thinking to get a IC7-G for another rig.

Hey I realized that frys gave me some crappy corsair value select ram and not the corsair twinx I asked for. im almost positive that this was the problem, that value select ram is not meant for overclocking.
I dont think its the 5:4 bug cause that only becomes relevant at fsb speeds of 270 and higher.

You might have to go down to 3:2 ratio. Does you no harm in trying. Set PAT to Auto.

Hey, I changed the timings to 3:2 and noticed windows would not start untill I relaxed the timings as much as possible. (3-8-4-4) In 5:4 (at same fsb) timings work under spd setting. Does this indicate ram?
I don't understand why it could be a cpu problem because when the fsb is at 245 max load temp is only around 50. When I bumb it to 250 it locks up instantly.
