Subject: Help, PC Rnadomly Turns off.
OS: Vista Ultimate
CPU/Ram: Intel P4 / 2 Gigs
Model/Manufacturer: ASUS P5GDC
Comment:
I have a pretty "cool"(as apposed to warm) computer with at least six fans, an and an Armour VA8000B case. However after recently installing my new GFX card and power supply (600w), my computer just randomly turns off once in a while, mind you the fans are still spinning, things "seem" to be working but nothing is apparent on the screen, same thing happens with other PSUs and GFX cards, I think I may have isolated the problem but I am not sure. My CPU averages around 60C Idle and god knows how high in actual game play. Here's my PC info.

Tell us about your new 600W PSU. If you didn't pay close to $100 (or more), it *may* be the cause of your problem. Also, 6 case fans is overkill & 60C at idle is WAY too high.

Sorry, I meant to say, 4 Case fans and a fan pci card (with 2 fans too cool the GFX card) = 6 fans

Whatever, it's still overkill.

Your PSU *should* be OK...then again, there may not be enough amperage on the +12v2 rail to handle your video card. Is this your PSU?

I don't know what brand 8800GTS you have but apparently it's the 640MB version. Two of the most popular brands are eVGA & BFG. eVGA recommends a minimum of 26A & BFG recommends at least 28A.

Your problem could also be caused by an overheating CPU. 60C at idle is high, but not totally unusual for a Prescott (if that's what you have). Are you running the stock HSF or an aftermarket model? Did you use a thermal pad or paste? If you used paste, you should have applied just a small dab about the size of a BB or grain of rice.

- Motherboard ASUS P5GDC Deluxe (With stock HSF) -Socket 775-
-- Installed in 2004 also added thermal paste only once back then.
- CPU is the standard Intel P4 3.4 GHz
- The GFX card is the nVidia 8800GTS 640MBs
____________

Wondering if I should replace the stock HSF with this one...
