I have an old pc which has 128 of ram and My pc has this intel pentium 2 chip in this huge heat sink it is curently 400mhz and i would really like to overclock it what should i do
thank you

go into the bios and change the multiplyer and fsb. if it is only jumpers pull out your manuel and look at the diagrams.

i dont have the manual i got the pc from my neighbor and its old and i went into the bios i dont see these multiplyer and fsb. so do u have any other advice
thanks

Run a hardware id program on the system and see if you can get the motheroard's spec.
B4 you criticize a bigger man, walk a mile in his shoes. That way, you're a mile away, and you have his shoes.

Try one of these programs to see if you can ID the board. Then go to the manufacturer's website & download the manual. You cannot adjust the multiplier, it's locked...all you can do is raise the FSB. It's probably configured thru jumpers or a DIP switch. It's very possible the make/model & jumper settings are printed right on the board.

Wrong program. You need to use CPUZ v1.26. Download it, unzip it, then click on the CPUZ.exe icon. When the program opens up, click on the MAINBOARD tab

As it's a dell you might have quite a bit of trouble. Those systems normally use OEM boards that aren't able overclock because the jumpers or dip switches to do that have been removed on those boards.
The 440bx is a good chipset so you may try SoftFSB. It works with my Asus P2B 440BX board.
Download the program and see if you either find your board in the setting and if that doesn't work check the list of clock chips below the mainboard setup and see if you fin one of them on your board. But only work with the correct one!
It all depends if that chip is able to run above 100MHz FSB because raising the FSB is the only way to OC that Pentium2.
My Pentium2 350MHz would have run up to 465MHz but I had to settle with 392MHz (112MHz FSB) because my ISA cards wouldn't work with a higher FSB!

Hmmmm...didn't notice it was a Dell
Take Free Weasel's advice.

Did a Google on overclocking my Pentium 2 and your comments came up......thanks a lot for the good information and for being so willing to help others.
