Subject: Help. Overclock kill m/b or cpu?OS: vistaCPU/Ram: e6700 / 2 x 2gbModel/Manufacturer: custom |
Comment: Hi, Yes I was building my first comp and everything was going well, until i was dumb and tried to overclock a little. So i just increased a little. Was just trying it out so wasnt going hardcore. Exited and saved changes and now there is nothing on the screen. Tried another videocard, nothing. Removed all the memory and cards then plugged back in, nothing. removed heatsink and check out cpu, looked fine, put some new paste. Tried clearing cmos (removed battery and power plug and left for about 50min) still nothing. Tried Bios recovery, same. anybody give this noob some help please, it was kinda expensive. Thanks Intel D975Xbx2 Core 2 Duo E6700 2 x 2gb DDR2 Geforce 8800gts

Reply: (edit)Explain what "tried to overclock a little" means. How did you go about this overclock? The default CPU freq is 266MHz...how much did you raise it? Did you adjust the RAM settings, PCI-e, PCI, etc., or just change the CPU settings? To reset the BIOS, try unplugging the power cord & using the ClearCMOS jumper...that's what it's there for. And you don't have to wait for 50min. A few seconds is all it takes. Removing the battery *usually* works, but not always.

Reply: (edit)I only changed the CPU freq to around 2.75ghz. I tried using the clearCMOS jumper but it didnt work, I guess Ill try again though. If that doesnt work is there any other options? Thanks
