Hey guys.. I'm in a jam right now. I used to leave my laptop on all the time and I recently bought a NETGEAR Wireless LAN card and added it in, and whenever I leave it idle this thing will heat up like no other and shut off. Quite frankly Im aggrivated. Ever since I added the LAN in it heated up.... Could that be it??? Is there a program I can use to monitor my CPU temp? When i pull the card out it's so hot it burnz me.. What do I do? Im usually used to keeping the laptop on for long periods of time and it's plugged into the wall. Plz help!!!!

Wow, this is a new one! Ask for help from the laptop manufacturer and from Netgear. The only question I ever asked from Netgear went unanswered so be persistent.

I have an inspiron 7000 366PII and use a Netgear FA411 (not wireless). My laptop stays on for days at a time and I have no overheating problems.
Seems to run at the same temp as before I purchased the card about 18 months ago.

If you remove the card, does the laptop run normally? Does it overheat with other pc cards? Try to borrow some and try them.

LOL with this one.

Dome motherboards have built-on temperature sensors. Monitor your temperature there. Labtops are more applicable to heat problems becuase of the lack of space. I would leave your labtop on some sort of heat absorbing pad. Most of the heat comes from the bottom, well at least on my bros labtop, so if that heat can conduct through the pad and not inside the labtop, it would be much better. Also, if you leave your labtop on, try to conserve power, because power = Watts = heat. So if you tell it to turn your screen off, that can help. Also, take off the load of the CPU and system by lowering the number of backround programs. Thats all I can tell you, Im not that experienced with labtops. So I hope it works out.
