Comment:

I just posted about a new heatsink and got a lot of good responses. However, when i looked up the specs of some of these they had what looked like minimum Ghz requirements on some of the chips. The Zalman ANPS6000 was an example http://www.zalman.co.kr/english/product/cnps6000Cu.htm At the bottom of that article it says athlon thunderbird 1.4 Ghz+. My cpu is a T-Bird 1.2 Ghz. I take it this is a problem and i was hoping someone could clear that up or recommend something that would fit for that comp on a Asus A7A 266 motherboard.

Check here to see how your heatisnk choices compare (amd sinks are below the water cooling and the p4 air cooling rankings)

the zalman is quiet but does so with high temps. Also note this review of quiet coolers:

http://www.silentpcreview.com/modules.php?op=modload&name=Sections&file=index&req=viewarticle&artid=47&page=6

That note on the zalman page about tbirds OVER 1.4g has to be a typo. The fastest tbird was only 1.4g.

Looking at your mobo

I would guess that the zalman will clear those capacitors just above the socket, but have no experience to be sure.

i use an older volcano 5 for my amd 1gig and it works pretty well. You will probably need like a volcano 7 now as the 5's arent made anymore but they are amd certified and I have had no probs at all.

There is no such thing as minimum Ghz, as long as it can mount on that type of cpu, it can be used.
