Ok, recently my Western Digital Caviar 40GBBB Hard-drive had problems sending signals back and forth with my OS. In the event viewer, it tells me that it is a Disk I/O error. In the event of this occurance, my mouse freezes for durations of 15 seconds but then I gain control of it afterwards.
After 2 days of wondering what the hell is going on (excuse my vocab.), I decided to use the DLG tools that came with my HDD. In an extended test, it tells me that my S.M.A.R.T program is not functioning (error code 0207), supposedly, it's not repairable. This caused my HDD to not respond at post; motherboard says "Back up all Data!! Hard-Drive Failure is Imminent!"
Therefore, I decided to run a linux setup (from CD) to see if it would succeed in the install. During the install, I had Disk Druid delete all of the existing file systems (poor 30GB of music and games gone). The installation was a success, Red Hat 7.2 booted up just fine. So, I put the computer to sleep. I turned it back on the next day and re-ran the Data LifeGuard tools; no errors detected whatsoever. My question is, what could this be, should I consider sending it back and have them replace it???
Sorry for the long and boring post, but I need suggestions and/or comments.
Thanks in Advance.
-K
