Comment: I have built a very nice computer, hardware wise, and keep it nice using drivers software etc. Look my sig for specs... Im looking to do some overclocking. All Ive done so far is get the FSB to 200mhz by lowering the multiplier do get the RAM in sync. I can get my 3800+ up to 2.2ghz stable, which is not a huge different, of performance gain. If i change the multiplier up .5, by keeping the same 200mhzFSB to sync with 400mhz memory, i get the "ntoskrnl.exe" and "C:\windows\system\" etc... I would just like someone to help me out on comfiguring my system to be optimcal. In case my sig is screwed up here are my specs: Athlon XP 2800+ Barton core Abit NF7-S v2 mobo, (#17 BIOS) 1gb pc3200 Corsair XMS Platinum edition DDR 120gb Western Digital 7200RPM\8mb cache -(partitioned into 3 partitions. One for Windows installation 10 gigs. One for programs\games 40 gigs, and the last for enetertainment files 65 gigs) ATI Radeon 9800pro, with version 3.7 catalyst drivers 52X TDK CD-RW Thats about it really, I appreciate any help in overclocking in advance, Chris If you can, email your response back as well. Reply: (edit)I have the same board w/2500+. I had no problem rampin' it up to 2.3GHz. If you haven't done the following you may need to do so: Disable ------- BIOS cacheble Video cacheble Spread Spectrum - both CPU Thermal Throttle PCI performance Enable ------ CPU disconnect CPU interface Put single stick of RAM in DIMM3, dual in 1,3. You may need to increase the cpu core voltage into the 1.8 range. I've also found the need to increase the voltage before increasing the FSB, rather than all at once. I've never booted windows over 214FSB. If I think of anything else I'll post back. dark. LOTS of info here: abit-usa - NVIDIA chipset based motherboards ABIT NF7-S v2.0 BIOS 18 2500+ 11.5x200(2300)@1.8v HyperX PC3200 512MB(5-2-2-2)

Reply: (edit)I always thought keeping the FSB in sync with RAM was the best thing to do, am i wrong? I tried putting the voltage up to 1.775, at 49C, at 2.3ghz but after booting and running a program for about a minute i would get the blue screen and im too nervous to add even more voltage with my stock fan. Any suggestions for fans? ive heard slk900u... with a 90mm fan. Also Id like to keep the noise down.. thanks in advance

Reply: (edit)Is that the expensive one? You won't need to go overboard. I suppose temp watching is bound to happen. Mine gets pretty hot too with the stock fan. I've put it down to 11x200@1.65v for the summer. You'll probably need the 1.8v to get out of BSOD, like your thinking. Here's a good discussion on hitsinks and fans and a bunch of links. dark. http://computing.net/cpus/wwwboard/forum/7373.html

Reply: (edit)Well i have never really ran into blue screens of death when i have overclocked this machine but i have had the error before on an older machine with a amd 900mghz.. And this might sound stupid but just some info if anything else. Sometime if your computer has a virus or trojan horse it will attack windows kernel which really make windows work. Without the kernel window can't and will not run.. So if you can get it to boot up again and check for a trojan horse or virus..
