hi all can some tell me is the x2 4200+ faster in games as the fx-55 cpu .would like to know as i have such a chip x2 4200+ and might swap it out and replace the fx-55
The upgrade -- to an X2 4200+ -- is not worth the cost.

Just get the X2 3800+ and overclock it to 2.6ghz. You can overclock it with a stock heatsink/fan setup. No need to get the X2 4200+ over the X2 3800+ if you have an overclocking motherboard. You're wasting 20 bucks.

I'm curious as to what you paid for the FX-55...I bet it was big bucks at the time?
The X2 4200+ is selling for roughly $90 & it is a better CPU, but is it worth it?

You can push it to 3ghz but it's going to become really unstable. 2.8ghz is as good as you are going to get without running into stability problems.

It terms of dual core yes but if you are running programs that don't take advantage of dual core then no. They are about the same if they are clocked the same when running a program that doesn't take advantage of dual core.
Summary: Ok, I am thinking of upgrading from my socket 754 Athlon 64 3400+ 2.4 Ghz CPU to either an Am2 Processor or an Intel Duo 2 Core processor. I've found two of my likings: Athlon X2 4200+ 2.2 Ghz Windsor...
Summary: Ok guys I need some serious advice. Am about to purchase a new system. And I don't know what to get. AMD X2 4200+ or an P4 HT at 3.SomethingGhz. I will be doing videos and games. Thanks for all...
Summary: The X2 4200+ has similar performance to a 3500+ Venice, except in applications that benefit from dual core. Overclock the same as you would any other A64.... Lower the HT multi to 4x, raise the CPU fr...
