Reply: (edit)Just get the X2 3800+ and overclock it to 2.6ghz. You can overclock it with a stock heatsink/fan setup. No need to get the X2 4200+ over the X2 3800+ if you have an overclocking motherboard. You're wasting 20 bucks.

Reply: (edit)I when i first bought the fx-55 i paid £120.00 off ebay never let me down cant overclock it to much though say 2.7ghz 2.8ghz thats it. i have both these cpu have two set ups for gaming , my mate wants to buy my other computer , as his computer has stopped working (dead).so going to swap out the cpus and i paid £60.00 for the x2 4200+ i want to keep the better cpu i do a lot of online gaming arma assault, bf2, bf2142,stalker. can i push the x2 4200+ upto 3.0ghz

Reply: (edit)You can push it to 3ghz but it's going to become really unstable. 2.8ghz is as good as you are going to get without running into stability problems.

Reply: (edit)It terms of dual core yes but if you are running programs that don't take advantage of dual core then no. They are about the same if they are clocked the same when running a program that doesn't take advantage of dual core.
