i am now having further problems

now that i am using a new case with a horizontal PSU (300w), a fan on the back and on the front of the case which is blowing out of the case and also a new/different heatsink and fan much i must add is quite large compared to the rest and the use of artic silver, im still getting heat problems

earlier my CPU temp was at 55/56c maximum, but my SYSTEM temp was at a very similar temperature, usually aroudn 50c but never higher than the CPU temperature. this wasnt a problem before, my SYSTEM temp was usually around 30/40c, but now its alot higher. Also i think this is causing problems with the motherboard as my connection to the internet is pretty slow at transferring when the temperatures are hot, as of now ive only just turned the computer on so browsing the net is fine at the minute. Also my USB scanner keeps having an exclamation next to it in the Device Manager too.

This computer has been a pain, please help!

air circulation inside the case is important. As hot air rises AMD recommends that you set the system up with a low front intake fan and a high back fan blowing the hot air out.
Your CPU temp seem fine but your case temps could drop a few degrees.Check the cables inside to make sure they do not interfere with airflow and keep things away from the outside area of the case for better airflow.
You do not say what your room temp is which could be a cause of warmer case temps.

55/56 is very high for cpu temps, i assume your reading this from the bios in pc health. i suggest you get some case fans or a better cooler, 56C is very hot, and this is not 100%cpu useage either.

your system temp is higher because you have been running the comp for several hours and the inside temps have built up. i suggest you get a new cooler. look at coolers from global win. they are very good and keep temps low. if you want an easy fan to install than get a tak68.

Since i have bought my new motherboard, processor and ram i have had nothing but trouble and now i am lead to believe that the motherboard is faulty!

The motherboard is a Gigabyte GA-7VAXP, processor AMD XP2000+ and ram DDR 256mb (2700)

Firstly the main problem i was having was with the CPU temperature, i have used 3 different heatsink & fans all varying in size and none have ever done the job properly and none have ever spun at the speed they were supposed to. I have used various different thermal coatings and so on and none have really proven any good.

Since i had problems with the CPU temperature i decided to buy a New case along with a front and back case fan along with yet another new heatsink & fan, they are all AMD approved and the heatsink and fan which actually came along with the AMD processor has proved the poorest of the lot!
Now at the moment the temperature isnt too bad, but yet again the fan isnt spinning at full speed.

Now the problem i am having are that constantly my scanner isnt being detected in the USB port, in the device manager in windows it has an exclamation next to it, even though i keep unpluggin and plugging it back in and windows actually detects it, this constant error keeps appearing.

Also ever since i have used this motherboard my internet connection has been amazingly poor. First i thought this may have been a problem with AOL, or my modem or my phone line. I asked a couple of my friends on AOL and they have no problems and are using the same dial up number. So i have just decided to connect my modem to my old duron and motherboard to see if the same problem occurs, and it didnt. The speed was fine and i managed to download a file at full speed with no stopping and starting. Since i have used this motherboard the internet connection hasnt been able to transfer data quickly (4.5kb) or in a stable position, everytime i have connected to the internet using this motherboard the data has transferred for about 2seconds and then just stopped, and then starts again in about a minute.

I first thought this problems were due to the heat and maybe causing the Serial/USB port to have a little trouble registering the devices, but now i am lead to believe that the motherboard is faulty seeing as since ive used this mobo i have nothing but trouble and it would explain alot of the problems i have been having even though i have tried everythin to prevent these problems!

What can i do as this is really doing my head in and i want to get my PC back up and running along with my internet?

Maybe a return and a new mobo???

Please help!

There is no chance that 55/56 temps are causing you problems. That's not an ideal temp but it's nowhere near what would start causing troubles. If you're having problems it's not a temp issue.

look there for your USB problems unless it was an installation problem. With USB Scanner you load the software first and then shut down.Connect the scanner and reboot.

Exchange the MoBo. they are somewhat expensive, so you may as well be satisfied with your purchase.

AMD recommends a low mounted front fan blowing in. a higher mounted rear fan blowing out. and a power supply that has openings on the side AND bottom. The bottom openings are very important to improve airflow. If you want to go to the expense, round ide and floppy cables will restrict less.

I just read your other post. here is a good resource to check out.

go to this link and download publication #26003. It will explain all AMD recommendations and there is a table you can follow to figure out your recommended PSU wattage.

Mark,

Try looking at the bigger picture and broaden your view alittle here. You say that your internet connection gets slower as the system heats up and that it is worse in the heat of the day when the ambient temp. just adds more heat and less disipation for your system right? Well, during the 'heat of the day' so to speak, there are usually alot more users accessing the internet than there are during the cooler hours are there not?....

yeah there maybe more user connected but i dont think the heat is causing problems at all with my modem, i switched my front fan round so it was flowing air in cause i set it up wrong and now i am gettin temperatures of about 44c for CPU and 36c for system, which is totally fine by me.

The main reason i dont think its related to heat issues is because i plugged my moden into my duron and old processor and it connected fine and transferred data fine, rite now this moment in time the data transfer is crap.

I know suggests like update your drivers and so on maybe a solution, but how i can i get updated drivers if i cant even download them successfully????

As for the airflow, i do have a front fan blowing in, a back fan blowing out and heatsink and fan. The PSU is located directly above the motherboard so it doesnt get in the way but i dont have a PSU which has side fans too which blow into the case, just the back fan. I was thinking of gettin one of those PSU's next month when i get paid and maybe some RAM. But for the moment my only suggestion is that the motherboard is faulty, and there isnt anything i can see to change in the bios??

The problem is your power supply. 300w is not enough for an AMD chip.

I guarentee you that your computer acting funny is caused by your power supply, as those temps, while not great, are not enough to cause trouble.

I wouldnt use anything less than a 400w; 350w bare minimum, and I mean minimum.

hi there
i a
have ga7vaxp board.
currenntly clocked at 100 mhz bus.
when i boot , it shows me processor running at 125o mhz athlon.

and it runs fine. but in the easytune, it shows me cpu freq of 1250 mhz.

it should be around 1600.

then i tried to boos the bus speeds to 133mhz
well that is what is needed for the zp2000
as this articles says
http://www.hexus.net/review.php?review=253

so when boot it with 122 mhz.

the booting shows me the right processor.
amd athlon 200xp

but the machine sort of hangs while windows loads up.
and by the time it starts i get all the fatal errors..
temparature in both cases areas
follows

at 100 mhz - 66C / 114f
at 133mhz - 77c

ther is 10 degree celcius heat diffference in both cases.
so what do you think might be problem

i have copper heat sink with silver coating.
and silent silent fan on it ma de by 'akasa'
and 300w power supply

thank you
amol chavan

please let me knwo you have any ideas
