Read your manual. To change the FSB to 166MHz (333), all you have to do is move the jumpers (SW1 & SW2) to pins 1-2. The jumpers are located next to the battery.

Are you using the onboard graphics or a 'real' video card? Do you have the latest BIOS version (v. 3.2)? Have you run thru all the BIOS settings & adjusted them accordingly, or did you just use the default settings? Most boards autodetect CPU voltage...& frequency is the same as FSB. What RAM do you have? PC2100 (DDR266) probably won't be able to run at 166MHz (DDR333).

OK, what about your power supply? Have you tried disconnecting the HDD, optical drives, pulled cards, etc & see if you can get a display under a lighter load?

There are a few 2600 cpu with different core (T-bred,Barton, Thorton, sempron), T-bred normally is running at 133, the other 3 are running at 166. You need to take out the heat sink and find out manually what the cpu model is, it should read something like AXDA2600DKV3C etc, do a serach to find out what your cpu FSB is based on the model.
remember to re-apply thermal paste or else your cpu will be fried.

The 2600+/333FSB (Tbred) & the 2000+/266FSB share the same multiplier (12.5x). There are two other versions of the 2600+, but one has a 16x multiplier (266FSB TBred), & the other 11.5x (333FSB Barton).

It seems it would just be a simple FSB change from 133MHz to 166MHz to get this CPU to run at the right speed, but for whatever reason, he can't make it work
