So i have this great system going now(great for me anyways). Good overclocking motherboard. But at its current state(in my sig) the system locks up if i run intense apps such as Supreme Commander for too long or just any time it wants. when i say locks up i mean first the audio locks and repeats whatever its last tones were then the keyboard and mouse freezes, then all animation on the screen stops. but the sound continues in its annoying repetition and the image stays there. this happens with more than just supreme commander. it can happen even if im doing simple tasks like browsing or watching tv on my computer. my question is what would cause a system freeze such as this? temperatures do run a bit high. the processor never exceeds 50C but the Northbridge gets up to 60C and the graphics card is a heat monster idling at 62-67C and no idea how high it goes up but im pretty sure its not the graphics card causing the problem as this happened before i got this gfx card. ive brought all my settings down to stock voltage and the processor to 2.4GHz the ram to DDR2 533. there r no blue screens. im thinking it might be a powersupply(lack of power) problem? i have 18A on one 12V+ rail and 20A on the other. and but the system doesnt shutdown or restart by itself so mayhaps its overheating? what do u guys think?

You didn't list the make of your PSU, but 18A & 20A on the +12v rails should be fine...unless it's a generic PSU & the specs are questionable?

I doubt this has anything to do with your problem, but on a C2D system, the CPU & RAM should run at the same bus speed. That means with your E4300 at default settings (9 x 200MHz), your RAM should be set to run at 200MHz. And when overclocked to 2.7GHz (9 x 300MHz), the RAM should run at 300MHz. If you wanna make the most out of your system, you should be running the CPU & RAM at 400MHz, which will mean lowering the CPU multi to something like 6x.

oh my bad. i thought it was in my sig.its an Ultra X-finity 600W PSU. I bought it based on reviews. the reviews i read said it has very solid voltage ratings.

as far as the ram and such goes i was keeping it at 333 to see if i could push the fsb to that point i only managed to get it to 300 before i hit a wall. i think its because my motherboard bios doesnt natively support my processor yet. it gives this warning msg when i boot the system saying that 'this processor is not supported by the motherboard and may run improperly due to this problem.' im hoping that perhaps a bios update will help...but there hasnt been a new bios out since january.

Lower the CPU multi so that you can raise the FSB even higher & do what you gotta do to keep the CPU & RAM running at the same bus speed.

ok so found out my motherboard cant change the multiplier cause it doesnt recognize the processor correctly yet...but i tried going straight to 1333 fsb and everything started to work perfectly. oddly enough its running at 1.35V on the northbridge without a hiccup. the ram is running at 333mhz 3-4-4-12 2.15v and the cpu is running at 3GHz 1.4v. guess just a certain spectrum of fsb wasnt on good terms with the motherboard. i know i could push it further and i might in the future(like if a bios update ever comes out) but right now im perfectly happy with the OC ive achieved. the gfx card i have came overclocked 575/1800 vs 500/1600 so im not planning on overclocking that anymore either. thanks for your help jam.

im not a noob i just like to get a concensus while trying to solve a problem. i wouldnt make a dumb mistake like misinstalling the processor heatsink/fan. also you shouldve read the previous posts before posting. ive already solved the problem.
