Subject: First time executions freeze OS: win2000 CPU/Ram: Celeron1700 / 256

Comment: A few days ago I have bought new Celeron1700 (socket 478 ) computer, and have one interesting problem. First times commands executions (after turning on) freezes quite enough. For example it can take up to 6-7 seconds to open first time simple “my computer” window, and more… first drag and drop from floopy in most of cases is almost impossible, I have to wait 3-4 seconds to activate file icon on a floopy, and only after execute “drag and drop” command. After first executions most of functions begin to work properly. To solve my problem I try many things (exapmle different platforms win 98se, winMe, win2000), but nothing helps apparently. Finally I tested my pc with sandra professional 2001 tests, and found interesting warning.. “FSB exeeds CPU rate…” So what I have now.. My motherboard is mercury “kob p4m266” designed for (as I think) genuine P4 cpu’s with supports of front-sied bus of 400 Mhz, and my Celeron has only 100 mhz… So can this be a cause of my first executions freezings? The problem is, that I cand found any FBS option in my BIOS (amibios) to try it with different valuesL May be someone could help me.. Any suggestions? P.S. benchmark test for memory subsystem (CPU-Chipset-Memory) returns very low values comparable with PIII lower series.

Reply: (edit)Your FSB settings are in your BIOS under the name "CPU/Frequency" selection. (example - 107/36 as mine is set at in my BIOS . -107 * Frequency Multiple(20x) = 2143Mhz. -107 * 4 = 428Mhz; which is my current FSB speed.
