I'm getting ready to build my first computer (wish me luck). I would like to put together a high end home computer used mostly for gaming (online and offline), heavy internet usage (streaming, etc.) and a real fast response on all other applications.

I've done quite a bit of research and I'm trying to choose my processor and motherboard. I'm going with a P4 processor (probably 2.8GHz) and need a little guidance on the Front Bus Speed.

What is the difference between 800MHz and 533MHz FBS (other than the speed obviously :)? I want to build a high end computer which will last me a while and can support future technology but don't want to throw money out the window if 800MHz FBS is just overkill for what I want to do. Is 800MHz FBS a reasonable speed for a high end home computer or is 533MHz more than enough for the home user?

Thasks in advance for any guidance,
Michael

Hey Michael,

Whats going to cost the most is the motherboard for 800fsb compared to 533fsb.

Heres the 2 $10.00 difference I'd go for the 800fsb now if it were me.

I think you can get a asus p4pe mb which supports 800fsb without the major cost.
