Hi. I just bought another fan. It was a an Antec Smartfan(80mm). I put it up against the backgrill. Is this fan supposed to be sucking air OUT? If it is, I can't feel anything coming out. Could it be as simple as the fan being backwards(stupid me if it is)? Or is this a fan that should be placed in the front? Also, I have a fan in the top slot too that sucks the air out. When I installed that I noticed a CPU temperature difference(50C to 46C playing "The Sims"). But when I added the Antec sytem fan, it only lowered he CPU temperature 2 degrees. Is that normal?

A general rule is to have the fans in the rear blowing air out and the fans in the front blowing in. Its pretty normal to have only a slight drop in temp when you add a fan to the front or back. The biggest difference you will see in cpu temp drop is adding a fan to the side of the case near the cpu blowing air in. I have a total of nine fans. Untill i added the 120mm fan on the side near my cpu temp only dropped to about 2 degree c. When i put the 120mm fan in it dropped about 10 degree c. And by the way...your temp is fine. I wouldnt add any more fans. And the fan that you say is not blowing air out, check to see if its backwards. You should be able to see the sticker in the middle of the fan from the outside. If not turn fan around.

For the most part, I agree wit P4S above...I think 9 fans is overkill & must be loud as hell, but to each his own...
There should be some sort of directional arrows on the fan housing...one will show direction of rotation, the other will show direction of airflow. Sometimes they are small & hard to see, but they should be on there somewhere...

It sounds like a lot but its not. Its an inwin fulltower case..which is a big tower...and 1 of the fans are chipset fan..which came with the board and 2 5.25 slot fans which dont really do anything and can be removed if i ever need that slot which i doubt ill ever need.

OK, with your fan direction, if you want the air to blow out of the case, Aim the font (sticker and brackets of fan) to the outwards part of the case, if this doesn't work, run the fan with the system and check with your hand to feel which direction the the air is going. If you want and awesome way to cool your case, draw a air flow diagram, and aim your airflow, starting at the bottom of the case (hot air rises), to a central part of the case, preferably in the path of a suction fan or case opening directly on the top of the case.
This works belive me, i have in total 7 fans, including: PSU, Video Card, Front blowhole, Case base fan, backpanel fan, CPU fan, and case side fan. All blowing in desired directions.
My temps are CPU = 29c
Motherboard = 28c
Case = 23cany comments, questions just reply
Good luck

HAving 9 fans is just overkill :) I have a xp1800 with temps right now of 40 Degrees CPU & 28 degrees system temp - I have a Volcano 7+ set to medium speed, A 5" fan blowing in from the front, A 4" blowing out - and just the usual rear PSU fan, Graphics card has one (TI4200), and the Chipset has one - Thats it - and im happy with 40 degrees.
I recently installed a big HP server which only had 1x6" rear fan and a PSU&CPU fan (on each cpu) and its cool as winter (havent checked the temps tho)- so why would anyone have so many fans, it would sound like an airport for sure!

Alright...i see i have to go in detail with the fans... First...InWin Fulltowers...they are big. I have the older model but newer model looks much the same. These towers can handle 4 fans...PSU fan included. One fan below the PSU fan and One fan above the PSU. The front can handle 1 at the bottom..got one there. Motherboard has two fans...one for Chipset and one for the CPU. They came with the motherboard so i trust gigabyte that i need them. Now for the 5.25 slot fan which is really a hard drive cooler I added just for the hell of it. I had an open 5.25 slot after my dvd rom drive went bad and no face plates to fill it. So i bought a cheap harddrive cooler fans that has 2 very small fans. And as for the bigboy 120mm fan with filter of course. I added this to the side of the case near the cpu. And it really does a good job in keeping the computer in the 40's and 30's.
So 9 fans an overkill? Not in my case....like i said..its a big case and my computer is in a cabinet. Its not in the opening sucking up fresh air. And keeping the cabinet open at all times is not an option either. And noise is not a problem. Its in a cabinet. So no noise.
