Comment:

AMD has stated that the Athlon 64 X2 6400+ 3.2ghz, 1mb L2 cache per core will be the end of the line for the Athlon X2 processor family. The price for the Athlon 64 X2 6400+ when it’s released will range anywhere from 220-248 dollars.

Early testing shows that it's 10-15% slower then the Core 2 Duo 6850.

The next AMD Dual Core processor line set to replace the Athlon 64 X2 will be the Phenom X2 processor which will make its debut on the new AM2+ platform.

There you have it.

Once Intel's latest pricing settles in & the E6750 drops to sub $200 index & this probably shouldn't be much longer or even soon after AMD's X2 6400+ hits the market, the X2 6400+ (220-$248) from AMD will be a pretty hard sell for DAAMIT .... LOL

This is not even considering the fact that the X2 6000+ @ 3GHz & currently at ~$160 is clocked just 200MHz lower than the 6400+. As it is also, the TDP on the 6000+ is ridiculous & same should be expected with the 6400+. But it's all good & I'd rather see AMD grasping at any straw than give it all up to Intel. AMD for the win!

So, is the 6400+ basically a 6000+ with 200Mhz extra power? Or is there more to it?

Yes, Pretty much.

AMD is lagging behind. The Phenom processors won't be out until late Q4 of 2007. Not good for AMD, the Phenom processor should have been out now to compete with the latest Core 2 Duo's.
