I have an emachine 667ir. Factory ram is 64mb memory, upgradable to 256mb(two 128mb chips). I have installed new memory in several different ways and not accomplished more than 128mb memory. First I left the factory 64mb chip in place, installed the new 128mb chip and my computer would not boot. I switched slots, still no boot. I installed just the 128mb chip and it booted. So I bought another 128mb chip installed it, no boot. The 128mb or the factory 64mb chip both work individually in either slot, but my computer will not boot up with a chip in both slots, any combination. Any suggestions, anybody??
Cheap memory or motherboard. Too much load on the interface chips. Use Name Brand memory, not generic. Viking, Kingston, Crucial, and Simple are good brands. Syncmax is bad.
make sure the memory density is compatible. High density, low density, and double density make memory show up different. I own and emachine 667ir also, and from the looks of it, we have to use the lowest form of RAM since these machines were put together so cheaply. I need a favor from someone, if someone could burn me a copy of the system disk for the 667ir, I would really appreciate it. Mine is scratched really bad, and if my system jacked up I wouldn't be able to recover. Help please...
