Hi all,

Just a quick one.

I am wanting to update my bios for the above board, When I goto the ECS website they have many bios updates versions. My question is :-

Will the latest bios incorporate all of the previos bios updates or do I need to download and install all the updates I am interested in ?

Many thanks
Paul

hello ,Paul
Check the version number of the mobo
A small white number near end pci slot.

note: only ver 3.1 pretends to support athlon 1800xp. i say pretend because sometimes it dosn't and will only clock to 1153 Mhz (in my experience).

all k7S5a bios are the same with the exception of "with LAN "
OR "no LAN"
Latest bios updates all .

if u want a laugh go to jetways.com.tw site and look up their 866ASR bios updates , how many???! looks like problems for 1800xp are showing up.

chill.

Does anyone have a way to flash this BIOS that works? I followed the ECS instructions, but get "error 2 - file does not exist AMICA29002L" Thanks.

Well, Although I'd love to help, I'm actually in the same boat. I just built an athlon 1800XP+ on a K7S5A board, and received some CMOS errors(out of the blue), plus XP has been REALLY unstable, so I think I may bite the bullet and flash the BIOS, but am a bit reluctant. I get very nervous about fooling around with the BIOS.

Anyone else having trouble with the ECS K7S5A board ?

I think the command to use for flashing the bios is...

aminf332 011121L.rom
(or whatever bios file you've downloaded).

I'm sure that's what I used.

Get the latest upgrade..it includs everythingbelow that...i have that same motherboard..its a piece of poo with green corn in it! the main chip on the mother board overheats from teh cpu heat..you have to take the gold heatsink off (twist it off) and remove all the gunk with a razor and nail polish remover and stick it bakc on with thermal grease and a fan on that

When you want to Flash Bios use one of the programs from CDROM utility than has been given to you with board ..
Then go to DOS SHEL and start one of AMi programs . Program must be started with switch /x...
Example:
c:\Ami/x
Next step :
1. chose chipset from list SIS 735
2. chose par ( Winbond 49c2002u)
3. type path to file you want to flash
4. Have fun with new BIOS version
When you want to have the program to flash Ami Bios and file for K7s5a send mail to me..

I had a ton of problems playing games, constant lock-ups and crashes. I fixed it by replacing the PC133 ram with high quality DDR ram. Crucial makes good ram. Since the fix, all games are stable no hang-ups. I hope this helps you out.

I am having trouble with a new K7S5A motherboard, with 256MB new DDR RAM, new Athlon1600 CPU, 2xElsaAGP Card (tnt2), 56kpci modem and 10baseT Ethernet card, Freshly formatted hard drive and somewhat old powersupply and case. also a cdrom drive and a NEC7700a CDRW. i had tried windows xp but it would hang whenever i loaded it. i tried reformatting and putting win98 on it, but it still won't go into windows, only in safe mode. i tried flashing the bios, and i'm stuck now - any suggestions?

I have a K7S5A and a 1900XP clocked to 2100 using CPUCOOL.

I have had no probs with this board.

Perhaps you have a older revision where the BIOS needs to be upgraded.

hey dudes, I have the ecs k7s5a with a xp1900+ and it works fine for me.
Here's what I did:
1. make boot diskette.
-utility dl:http://www.mirrors.org/archived_software/www.bootdisk.com/winfiles/boot500.exe
from:http://www.mirrors.org/archived_software/www.bootdisk.com/original.htm
which is from:http://www.bootdisk.com
----------
2.Then I copied aminf332.exe and 020429L.rom which is the latest bios to another diskette
3. Afther that I booted from the diskette
and when I reached the dos mode I typed "aminf332.exe 020429L.rom"
4. Wait....
5. Setup the bios.
6. Play games/Develop webpage.

My cpu didn't clock down although it was xp 1900+
because I set the thing in the bios to be 133/133 isntead of 100/133, 133/100, 100/100.
These force it to clock down I think...
