E5300 won't Boot

Intel Processor - 1 x intel pentium dual...

Specs: Windows Vista
I have an Acer Aspire M1610 with an F672CR
motherboard and an updated BIOS from Acer.
700W PS. I bought an Intel E5300 to replace
the E2140 on it thinking it should be
compatible. 775 socket and 800MHz FSB for
both. But when I swap the processor it only
get as far as the Acer screen and no further, it
won't let me in to the BIOS or load windows. I
know Acer has a Flash BIOS that doesn't
allow overclocking so I can't manually adjust
the clock speed there, but the newer Aspire
M1610's have a faster processor than the one
I'm trying to install so I don't think it's an issue
with the clock speed but I could be wrong. The
only thing I can think of is that the E5300
doesn't support running in 32-bit mode, but I
can't change to 64-bit because my VPN Client
for work doesn't support it. Am I hosed on this
processor or are there any other suggestions
anyone may have? Thanks in advance!
