Simple question:
Which is the better cpu, Duron 1.8 or Semperon 2600 and why.
Costs are :
Duron £28.00
Semperon £43.00Thanks

The 2600+ Sempron is an Athlon XP 2200+ reconfigured to run at 166MHz/333FSB. It's based on the Tbred or Thorton core & has 256k L2 cache.
The 1.8GHz Duron runs at 133MHz/266FSB & has of 64k L2 cache.
The Sempron is superior. Make sure your motherboard supports it...you may need to update the BIOS.
Asus A7N8X-X
1800+ @ 8.5 x 200MHz
768MB PC3200 2.5-3-3-7
Asus A9550GE/TD 128MB
WinME/WinXP Pro

Neither. Both sucks. Athlon 64 3000+ costs $146 for SOcket 939. Go for that instead
ASPIRE ATXB4KLW-AL Antec 400W
ASUS A8N-SLI Deluxe
AMD 3700+ San Diego
Corsair 1GB 2x512
eVGA 6600GT
250GB Hard Drive
Sound Blaster Audigy
Windows XP HOME W/SP2

"Neither. Both sucks."
Jeez,
Inappropriate response...neither chip is a San Diego core but neither chip sucks either.
He ask'd a simple question, not an opinion on an A64 3000+ vs. the rest of the world. Take your high end is the only way to go crap and peddle it somewhere else. A venice or san diego core a64 is not required to run any machine.
jam answered the question...go for the sempron if the motherboard will support it.
Skip

I'm gonna agree with Skip here, my Sempron 2800+ runs as well as I could like it to, even with gaming, with 1 GB RAM and a Radeon 128MB. Sempron's plEnty for most users.
The most likely way for the world to be destroyed, most experts agree, is by accident. That's where we come in; we're computer professionals. We cause accidents.-Nathaniel Borenst
