Comment: hi, i am new to OC'ing and last night i oc'd my Duron 1.3 Ghz to 1.43 110 x 13. It will freeze if i go over 110 FSB. Would it be of any advantage to decrease the multiplier and try to increase ther FSB again? Or should i leave the FSB at 110 and notch the multiplier to 13.5? Plz no flaming me, i am new to OC'ing and want some advice before i fry my mobo, etc. Specs: K7T LE mobo Duron 1.3 Ghz currently 1.43 Ghz 320 MB sdram pc 133 GeForce4 MX 420 64 mb SoundBlaster Ensonique Quantam 13 Gig 5400 rpm Fujiuitsi 30 Gig 5400 rpm TIA to anyone who offers some advice!!

Reply: (edit)Lowering the multiplier may help but it's unlikely. It's more likely that your CPU just won't do above 110MHz FSB. Theres no harm in trying to lower it though and raise the FSB. The memory shouldn't be a problem as you say it's PC133. I've seen lots of Durons that couldn't even do 110MHz FSB. You're unlikely to fry the motherboard or CPU unless you overclock too much in one jump. Just know where the clear CMOS jumper is on your MoBo. Hmonitor is a nice windows program for monitoring temperatures and voltages and it's very easy to install and setup. http://dl.winsite.com/bin/downl?win95/sysutil/hmonitor.zip|120|3326

Reply: (edit)ok, I installed Hmonitor. It says my cpu temp is 46.4 C, going as high as 57 during games. Is this too high?

Reply: (edit)Just a little hint make sure your running at CL3 for your ram when you overclocked it to your maxium recommend. For examle your system is 133 system bus and you overclocked it to 140 but when you try 145 or even 141 it locks up. It could be because your RAM is not the expensive high quality kind as that of MushKin and Corsair. Most mainstream RAM acts like this. CL2 @ PC 100 (ok) --> CL3 @ PC 133 (ok) So, if you run at CL2 and overclocked it to 110 you might have problems. Ie comp won't boot at all. In my Opinion CL2 is faster than CL3 and if you can't go further and had to set to CL3 I rather just go for 110 with CL2 istead of 120 with CL3.

Reply: (edit)Also CPU can operate at 80 and over. It is not recommend but it does survive 80. As to me I do not want to run 80 constantly. For an overclocked system without ADVANCED cooling I will say anything below 55 is decent. 57 is a little high. But as long as its below 60 I think its ok. Do understand higher the temperature of your system the shorter its life and lesser performance. To your reference. My 1gig TB is running at 1360 and 45 degree full load with a cheap fan but the RPM is at 4800. I recommend you get a FAN that goes at least 4800 5500+ if you can.
