Subject: Duron 1100 - can' t go over 1400 ?!
OS: XP / 98SE
CPU/Ram: 256 Mb DDD333
Comment:

I have a Duron 1100 running stable at 1403 (FSB: 133 x 10.5) - WCPUID reading - at 1.85v on an Abit NF7 mobo.

I've managed to have it running 1463, but it crashed at high load (upped the voltage up to 1.93 - heat wasn't the problem).

Also (I may be wrong on this, but it's a hunch), I think my DDR is limiting me in my efforts: it's 256 Mb Samsung DDR333 and I can't seem to be able to overclock it any bit (I mean that if I get the frequency any bit over 333, it crashes - no matter what memory timings I use). So, if possible, someone give me a hint on that too, please.

LOL SkipCox :)))

What mobo / RAM do U have ?
I paid a bit more than the average price for my mobo (I'm pretty satisfied with it, actually) and got the cheapest CPU it would take, the idea being that this is my first overclock and I that I didn't want to fry an expensive CPU (I'll get a better CPU when I'll consider myself ready :>).

Also, is Ur Duron multiplier-unlocked ? (normally U should have it at FSB 100 x 13 stock - can U get the multiplier higher than 13 ?)

Hey, I'm pretty lo buck here. Motherboard is a MSI K7T Turbo2 and yes multipliers run on up from 13x.

I have the solution though. Just waiting for prices to fall more on a 2600+. I have every intention of pushing this old machine just as far as I can with SDRAM memory. Then, and only then, I'll buy some hot ass stuff and build another machine. This machine has been good to me but everything I have now is getting old. Still has some life in it though.

Back to your question...I've tried every way I can imagine to change multiplier but I get a no post for my efforts, so I just run up the fsb a bit. Runs great at about 1350Mhz.
I also can't tell much difference between 1313Mhz and anything higher. That first fsb increase from 100 to 101 Mhz blew me out of my chair. Like it worked the way AMD intended it to.

I built a computer for my neighbor using a NF7 and a used 1400 Thunderbird with SDRAM and that thing flys.

Like I've said I'm running:

MSI K7T Turbo2 v5.0
Duron 1300
512Mb 133Mhz SDRAM
80 Meg 7200 8Mb cache Maxtor
and a bunch of other stuff

I just gotta toss that 2600+ in this thing, then I'll do a ground up machine w/ new everything. I've been eliminating bottle-necks for a couple of years now and I've gone about as far as I can with this config.

Like you said

LOL SkipCox :)))

you say you want to put that 2600+ in that MSI K7T Turbo2 mobo?
