Comment:

Last year I built a computer (my first one from scratch) and I see a TON of error i made and so I want to create a more powerful PC. I have 2 ideas and i was wondering if anyone could speculate which would run faster.

Dual Processor
2x SP Athlon 3000+ (will be overclocked equaly)

-or-

Athlon 64
Athlon 64 3500+ /2000mh FSB

I would add
BFG GeForce 6800 GT / 256MB GDDR3 / PCI Express / Dual DVI / TV Out / Video Card

and have 2x1024 DDR2

also i have not decided opn mobos, i found one i liked for the dual processor system but i lost the url -_- if you have ne subjestions that would be ace. TY ^^

BFG GeForce 6800 GT / 256MB GDDR3 / PCI Express / Dual DVI / TV Out / Video Card

Athlon 2500+ O/C'd to 2.2 ghz
512 dual channel ram
9200se 128 mb Vid Card
Soyo KT600 MoBo
600w P/S
Chieftec Matrix Black Case :P

What are you gonna use this thing for?

Last I heard, there's no advantage to running dual CPUs except under very specific circumstances, such as a server.

And 1GB RAM running in dual channel mode is plenty. Once again, there's not much advantage to running 2GB except under certain circumstances, such a CAD machine

The system you have listed in your sig is being dragged down by that lame 9200SE.

Asus A7N8X-X
1800+ @ 8 x 210MHz
768MB PC3200
Asus A9550 128MB/128-bit
Gamer Edition
WinME/WinXP Pro

Your current set up is fine except for the video card. If your going to upgrade, go with A64.

ASUS A8N-SLI
A64 3000+
1gig Corsair XMS
LEADTEK PX6600GT TDH
Enermax 535W
Dual 80gig WD.

:P In july im getting a 19" lcd panel and a new vid car + 1 gig of ram so ill be doin better.

This computer will be used for
a) creating counterstrike maps (almost cad)
b) CAD drawings
c) server to host my pretty maps :P

so basically I need that extra power. But i suppose i will go for the athlon 64. ty for all the help :P

Well the AMD 64 Athlon 4000+ is the end of for a Athlon 64 single core processor. The Athlon X2 dual core processor will replace it but at a price. The slowest Athlon 64 X2 4200+ processor will run 537 dollars. The fastest Pentium D is still cheaper than the slowest Athlon 64 X2 4200+, and the slowest Pentium D is ridiculously cheap compared to AMD's dual core offerings.
