CPU/Ram: AMD XP 1800+ / A7S333 / 2
Comment:

i just upgraded my comp from a P3 450 to an AMD XP1800+ cause i needed a quick fix to get some good games to run... and was only 410 canadian for the new chip/mobo/ram/case/powersupply

anyways this system isn't really powerful enough for me, and in the near future i will have enough to choose between dual proc. or a P4 w/ HT, my question is which would be better for gaming? reading the threads about similar seems the P4 would win out, but is the P4 overall better than a dual proc say Athlon MP 2800?? if they are out when i buy...

thx for time/consideration/help

1800+ not powerful enough for gameing? What are you playing? Any CPU over 1Ghz is fast enough for gaming. The main thing is your video card when it comes to games. Athlons are made for games. DON'T waste your your money on those P4's. One more thing how much ram do you have? For hard core gaming I recomend 256mb - 512 mb. (anything over 512 is over kill).

I don't know of any modern games that support dual CPUs, so neither of your idea would make a big difference.

The easiest way to speed up your games is to use a fast video card

Derk is right!! The video card is the one that maters!!..AmadanNaBriona if you have an AGP4x or AGP8x slot you could get you self a nice ATI RADEON 9700 PRO 128MB DDR!!...Then you will have some killer graphics!!..You could also run just about any game!!...Even the game thats goin to come out that called DOOM3!!

ATI Graphics Cards Rock!! :P

well the thing is, i'm looking to spend about $10 000 canadian, on a computer, so i mean my little comp here isn't gonna be much, so which would be more bang for my buck? dual proc. or the new P4, or even the Athlon XP 3000+?? i'm looking to score some great framerates on a game like Doom 3...

also an unrelated note about cooling, if a chemical like Ethanol or similar doesn't conduct electricity, cause it's not ionic, in theory if you submerged a comp in it, and stuck it in a freezer, wouldn't u be able to seriously overclock??

forgot to mention something about Vid Card

i'd love to buy some of the brand spankin' new vid cards, either an ATI 9800 or a GeForce FX 5800 Ultra, but i only have a 4X slot on the ASUS A7S333 mobo, it's a budget version A7V333 which is the precursor to the A7V8X or something... anyways i'm at least 2 models behind the AGP 8X curve :P

if you wanna spend 10 Gs on a comp I got some swampland in Florida to sell ya!!! LOL...spending over 2000 Canadian is a waste of money in my opinion for that you can get a very nice XP barton 2500, ATI 9700 GPU, 1 GIG of 333mgz RAM, Large HD and all the trimmings, In my opinion spending large money on components that will be hundreds of dollars cheaper in a month or so is insane

just my 2 cents
